Hey everyone, I thought it would be a great idea if I made a thread where I asked you all to recommend me some good songs or even music groups to look into.

Name one, name three, name as many as you like!

Thanks!

What is your musical taste at the moment? By answering this it's a bit easier to recommend music that you might like.

My personal picks would include:
Urban Dance Squad
Spearhead
Elvis Costello
Aretha Franklin
Bruce Springsteen
Pearl Jam
Jimi Hendrix
too many others to mention.

:)

I always suggest Ryan anyway. I like whoring him out.

Yes, tell us the sort of music you like, then the recommendations can be more personalised to you...alternatively say what U2 songs you like or whatever and i'll try to recommend bands that make similar music.

I would always reccomend The Verve, Travis and Oasis, though.

:)

*just saw that you mentioned liking Ryan in another thread...and I already acknowledged it*

What stuff of Ryan's do you have? If you have his official releases, I could get you started on some gigs and other unofficial goodies.

The Magnetic Fields
The Shins
Bright Eyes
The Jayhawks
Belle & Sebastian
Remy Zero

I think you want something catchy and rocking in which case you will want to be listening to

Cooper Temple Clause (download the song Amber or New Toys)
The Shins (all of the album 'Chutes Too Narrow')
Franz Ferdinand (check out "Take me Out", "Darts of Pleasure")
Muse (listen to the songs Bliss, Sing for Absolution)

singer/songwriter stuff:

Elliott Smith (listen to Waltz #2, Between the Bars, Needle in the Hay)
Rufus Wainwright (April Fools, Imaginary Love, Go or Go Ahead)

what else do you like? do you like electronic music, dance, etc...

Bettie Serveert - the best Dutch band ever (even better than UDS :p)
Over the Rhine - amazing voice
Groove Armada - needs no explanation

Jet
Tears For Fears
Bush
Blur
Madness
Steve Miller Band
Dave Matthews Band
The Cars
E.L.O.
Guster

I'll just recommend my other favourite bands, not mentioned yet, and what I'm listening to now. You might already know many of them, because many are discussed here, but....

the frames
Ed Harcourt
spiritualized
South
Ben Harper
the buffseeds
the delgados
mojave 3
chemical brothers
beth orton
nick drake

ok, i'll try to stop...that should cover a decent range of musical tastes.. :)

definitly beth orton

the album "Central Reservation"

other nice female lead vocal bands:

Portishead
Frost
Goldfrapp
Broadcast

How about some really good R&B:

Otis Redding
Ray Charles
Sam Cooke
Marvin Gaye

It's not trendy, but it's necessary.

And for Country:

Johnny Cash
Willie Nelson
Patsy Cline

The only Country music you'll ever need.

Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
Musicians such as Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Tony Banks,
etc, rave about this band. And I can see why. :) :)
