now see, i can at least say i never liked the backstreet boys. i think i bought pop in april or may of 97. i know i at least bought it before i saw the band, which was on 5/14/97. they've not played memphis since. then again, before that, they hadn't played memphis since 1982. so i consider myself lucky.

They've only been to Tucson once: April 5, 1987 on the Joshua Tree tour. Nearly every teacher I had in high school was at that show. They're too huge to ever perform here again.

it's probably the same thing here. but then again we've got a huge, brand new arena now and when the first and third legs were announced they actually announced in the paper that U2 weren't playing here. they were all over it. then again they may disagree with the policy our basketball team has about concerts, etc. and i wouldn't mind so much if i were to find out they were boycotting this city because of that. so i tell myself they are to make myself feel better.

would it kill you if i told you i also bought zooropa right around when it came out? and i can't remember when exactly i bought achtung baby but it was probably in december of 91? i may have been a fan of new kids on the block and debbie gibson but at least i was able to counteract that with my inxs and U2 fandom. so i'd like to think my coolness cancels out or at least lessens my dorkiness.

You'd think they play Memphis more often after the lovefest they had with the city during the Sun Studios sessions.

We don't have any major arenas, which is why we don't get too many big name acts over here. Everyone always goes to Phoenix/Tempe. On the rare occasion when we do get big acts, they'll usually play at the Tucson Convention Center (same venue U2 played in '87) or the sad excuse we have for an amphitheatre at a local casino.

I would only say hardcore since last year.

I had a better start to U2 than most considering I was born in a hospital that is 500 metres from One Tree Hill, in Auckland - infact the first thing I ever saw apart from my parents and some rinky dink little hospital room may well have been that (born in October 86 too... I like to think they recorded the song the day I was born... sad).

Anyways I had heard a lot of U2's songs - the Holy Trinity, Pride, Beautiful Day, Sweetest Thing. I had always been a fan, enjoyed there music and regarded them as good but I''d never really bothered to jump into them to any great depth. Had seen Rattle & Hum - completely adored Sunday Bloody Sunday (it stikes a very strong chord with me)

Saw Slane at a mates house at the start of 2004. Dug All I Want Is You -> Streets. That pretty much got me in... started listening to the Achtung Baby, War, JT & UF CD's I had on my Pod (ripped from the Library). Acquired the rest gradually. Zooropa was the last. Only got into that because I had a car accident and wanted to find an appropriate song (I kid you not).

Yeah it is amazing diving into such a depthy catalogue. The other only other artists that have the same diversity/quality for me is the Crowded House/Finn/Split Enz catalogue (which my profile will tell you is my obsession).

I own all the albums on Vinyl... getting there with some singles (I collect vinyl... I have issues). Yeah U2 are pretty good

I'm just jealous because I feasibly could've seen PopMart in Sydney if I were aware/into them at the time, which would've been possible if Discotheque ever took off here - but all I remember from 1997 is Breathe by The Prodigy and Barbie Girl by Aqua. PopMart Sydney .

not to mention eve's first freakin name is memphis! you wanna know where they played when they came to sun studios? yeah, i did some research. they played murfreesboro!! this little boonie town compared to memphis! their population is about a tenth of ours (we're a little under a million, they're a little under 100,000) and yet they got U2 during the joshua tree tour. now granted memphis apparently sucked in the 80s. i wouldn't know cuz i was living in orlando then, but still, that's fucked up.

you guys don't even have any arenas? man, when U2 came here they played at the liberty bowl, which is our big outdoor arena. now we also have the fedexforum (one huge word which looks stupid) where our nba team plays. both of those are pretty big. and hell, the liberty bowl was big enough for U2 during popmart. blah. i hope when i move they're still touring so i can see them again. and stuff.

i love collecting vinyl as well, don't feel bad. i started doing it back in 01 on a whim because i had the cash and no debt. credit cards suck, you think they're a blessing but they're a curse. anyway, so i just started buying U2 and duran duran (*my* first and other obsession) vinyls on ebay. now of course i've discovered there's second-hand shops around here but i still have found things on ebay i never would have in the shops around here.

come to think of it, i really don't have that much U2 vinyl. i've got like maybe 10-15 singles and only one album i think.

I have plans for my vinyl, big plans. When I buy my first house I'm going to get a big old jukebox and stick a whole lot of '45's in there. It will be cool (I think... but I was born in the wrong era).

Daddy's Gonna Pay, yup... Dirty Day struck a chord as well though. Truth beknown though Daddy did not pay for my crashed car. Goodbye 2 months wages .
