Random, unrelated question for you all...

OK, mostly for Scumbo, Laz, Martha, Shouter, NSW, any of you people who get around the country quite a bit.

Any of you stayed in Mesquite, NV? The man (who STILL won't commit to the U2 gig :|) and I are thinking of heading down there for a few days at the end of May.

I've stayed in Mesquite a few times, in fact I've stayed at all four of the hotel/casinos there. What do you want to know? Gambling and golfing are the two main things to do. Mesquite has some nice courses. There isn't much in the town itself, but you're only a 25 min drive though the awesome Virgin River Gorge to St. George, UT (pop 120k) which has plenty of restaurants/shopping. Mesquite is only about an hour from Zions National Park, and two hours from Bryce Canyon. Two highly recommended stops if you haven't been. Lake Mead, Valley of Fire State Park, and Vegas are about an hour in the other direction.

Would be glad to give you any other info...and scumbo probly knows about it too.

I've stayed in Mesquite several times. I like the Best Western there (no casino), or the hotel (with a casino) at the north end of town. I can't remember its name. Mesquite's more of an overnight kind of place to me than a stay-over place. There's really not that much there. A few casinos, a few closed motels; that's it. Stay in St. George or Springdale and go to Zion instead.

I got nothing. Sorry.

Yo, Shouter, Sagittarius was a definite keeper. A little short and definitely precious, but the melodies were sublime and My World Fell Down is perfect.

Word. The Sundazed release adds a whole bunch of bonus tracks, and shit. Really good stuff, and very much of the Beach Boys/Van Dyke Parks school.

I hope Kate has her seat belt buckled up tight on the way to the reception.

Too soon?

No, just an idiotic thing to say. :tsk:

I don't see the humour, caring about the royals or not.

Maybe I'm just too tired.

Cori, I just ordered an LP from Sonic Boom Records. What can you tell me about these cats? They on the up-and-up?

I haven't been to Mesquite, Reggo. I apologize for my personal failures in life.

Well, they're both lighter love songs? The beat is different but neither are very complex or heavy compared to the band's usual output.

That's the beauty of Lovesong within the context of Disintegration. Amid the emotional and musical weight of the rest of the album, it acts as a nice change of pace. Catch, while a strong tune in its own right, is a light piece on an album with several other light pieces.

Love Song is still lame, regardless of what's around it.

And I guess the smarter comparison would have been with How Beautiful You Are, which it has more in common with musically.

 and  !

Sonic Boom and Easy Street are the two better known indie shops in the city. Sonic Boom has 2 or 3 locations, and while they're smaller than Easy Street (ES has two stores, but they're much bigger and have a broader selection, particularly their used sections) and don't get the big in-store performances like Pearl Jam (who put their Easy Street set out on CD), they do a lot of indie in-store stuff as well.

There's one in my neighborhood, and I try to buy new releases from them when possible.

She's got cheekbones like geometry
And eyes like sin
And she's sexually enlightened by Cosmopolitan
And when she smiles my way
My eyes go out in vain
For her perfect skin

 Lloyd Cole

I was going to talk about my listens of Lovesexy and The Black Album, but now I'm thinking Prince really deserves his own thread. He's earned it.

Glad to hear it. Now to see how quickly they ship.

Let me know if you need me to pop in and kick anyone's ass if they don't process your order timely.

I understood what you meant, I was just saying I probably wouldn't compare the two, mostly because of the lyrics, but that's not even why you were comparing them, so carry on.

And you speaking of creating a Prince thread, I should probably bump The Cure thread at this point, I just hate making people think they're doing something new.

:hmm: Thanks, guys.

:tsk: Unacceptable. Neither have I, I just thought it'd be fun. He's already changed his mind anyway. :|

I heard the Bjork song "Human Behaviour" today.

Moral of the story: I need to start listening to Bjork.

I really don't know shit about her music. I think "Army of Me" is the only tune I can really think of off the top of my head. And of course I have the sort-of layman's knowledge of her: she's a quirky/possibly insane Icelandic singer with a curious vocal style.

And one time Lorelai and Rory made a snowman that looked like her. And she wore weird shit to awards shows way before Lady Gaga did.

I really, really dug this "Human Behaviour" track, though. That rhythm section. Fuck.

I think she's going to be the next artist that I spend a lot of time getting acquainted with. Once I'm done with this Ramones kick that I'm currently on.

Post and especially Homogenic are two of the finest albums of the nineties. Songs like "Unravel" and "All Is Full of Love" are spellbinding in their delicacy, but she can also rock out when she wants to do so.

I'm not a huge Bjork fan, but I can't deny that Homogenic is an incredible achievement. Such great atmosphere.

Hyperballad is my favorite song by her though.

Ha, I totally forgot that Bachelorette isn't on Post. I like her debut and Post a lot, but her other stuff is pretty hit or miss for me.

I admire her a lot and find her really interesting, but wish I enjoyed some of her music more.

I went through a period where I listened to her alllllll the time. Probably partially overdid it and wore myself out on her music, and also I was really disappointed with her last album. Add those two things together, and I haven't had the urge to listen to her very often for a few years now. Anyways, essentially everything up through Vespertine was great, including the soundtrack to Dancer in the Dark (which Radiohead fans may or may not be familiar with). I liked Medulla a lot more than most did, but the last album (whose name I can't even remember off the top of my head) was a huge bummer to me for some reason.

I fell asleep during the last three songs on Homogenic, but I still gave the album a 4/5. I have no idea why I haven't relistened to it yet, I really really loved it.
