i really like what you were going for here but the references could use some polishing. 8/10

He could use some Foster's as polish. Stuff has many uses according to Australian lore.

Is Autumn Sweater a well-known Yo La Tengo song? My partner just has Spotify playing and it's really, really nice. I've never heard it before.

It reminds me a lot of this song, because of the synth (organ?) melody and the hushed vocals.

I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. It was the same night I heard Passion Pit's The Reeling for the first time. We were in crummy motel in Kingaroy, Queensland for one of my cousins' wedding. It was nighttime and I was down. Both songs were playing on Rage. They really spoke to me that night and I've carried them with me ever since.

I'd say it's their best-known song, or at least in the top three. Really excellent song from an excellent band.

Are you referring to the melody? There is something familiar about it, but I can't place it.

I also strongly believe I have heard the little riff on Memorial Day somewhere before, and I can't place that either. The drums remind me of Warpaint, but that riff I swear is based on something else.

Also, an excellent album start to finish. I never know which one I like more, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out, or Painful. They have such a fantastic discography. I've never been able to catch their epic Hanukkah shows, but will try to do so this year.

Heart is easily the best IMO. But they have a fair number of great albums.

Very excited about it. I have avoided the new songs so that I can hear the full thing tomorrow.

I will still go to war over the greatness of Modern Vampires...

I pre-ordered the new album, so it should be arriving in the mail sometime in the next few days . But yes, will definitely stream the full thing tomorrow, too. I've heard a couple songs off it thus far.

I will listen to it and hope for the best, but they are such an overrated band. Maybe the single most overrated band of the last 12 or so years.

Yes. And that's the trouble I'm having.

Man I'm with you on this. They are painfully average to my ears. And none of the new songs, which are played ad nauseam on Sirius XMU, are doing anything to change that for me.

Like, Contra is a good album with a few great, catchy songs, and I liked a couple of songs on that last album, but absolutely nothing they have done remotely justifies their standing. It's all built on introducing white indie kids to non-white 'world' music and then employing scarcity and mystery as marketing strategies in the years since.

I don't think anyone rated them in the first place outside of extremely casual music listeners who claim that guitar rock is dead.

Why would casual music listeners who claim guitar rock is dead be into a guitar rock band? I'm confused by this sentence.
