I just finished reading Silmarillion, which is said to have described the First age/First era (I don't know the original term), and Lord of the rings is supposed to be about the Third age.

So...where is the Second age?

Here is a list of books written by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
The Return of the King

The Silmarillion
Unfinished Tales
The Adeventures of Tom Bombadil

The History of Middle Earth Series
The Book of Lost Tales, Part 1
The Book of Lost Tales, Part 2
The Lays of Beleriand
The Shaping of Middle-Earth: The Quenta, The Ambarkanta and the Annals
The Lost Road and Other Writings
The Return of the Shadow: The History of the Lord of the Rings, Part One
The Treason of Isengard: The History of the Lord of the Rings, Part Two
The War of the Ring: The History of the Lord of the Rings, Part Three

Hmm, I believe Tolkien wrote a bit about the Second Age at the beginning of Lord Of The Rings. However, my sister has been reading that book for more than a year now (and I'm at work at the moment) so I cannot check it.

I think Tolkien never managed to describe it as he took so long finishing Lord Of The Rings, etc. He was mortal, after all. It could have been quite interesting though (describing the first wars against Sauron and such).

C ya!

i'm reading Silmarillion at the moment... not the easiest book I've read. I'm having big problems separating all characters, and especially all the different 'groups' of elves. I have a feeling it will take quite some time to finish..
