This is just sort of a random question, but I was thinking about how most Americans would jump at the chance to visit other countries, especially the European ones and Australia. So I was just curious as to if people in other countries viewed the U.S. as a place they'd like to go someday or if they really have no desire to come here. It doesn't seem like there's anything too exciting here so it wouldn't really surprise me if no foreign tourists wanted to come. (At least tourists from a different continent- I'm sure Canadians or Mexicans might come over for a visit ocasionally.) So what's the verdict? :)

I definitely want to go to the States.
I've been to Hawaii twice but that doesn't really count hehe

There's nothing too exciting there?! Are u nuts? You guys have SO much around you. Do you realise it takes at least 2 days to drive from one major city to the next in Australia? You guys have such diversity in short distances, so many cities and places to visit.
I can't wait to see New York, San Fran, Louisiana, Chicago, The Grand Canyon....disneyworld lol
You have SO much in your backyards!
Im actually thinking my next trip will definitely be to the States. I just need the Australian dollar to quadruple first. :slant:

well mandababe, if you ever are here and I'm in the country, you can come stay with me. :D

I second everything Amanda said! The USA has some of the most beautiful countryside imaginable. From rocky mountains, rugged coastlines, to rolling hills, canyons and deserts! It really is amazing.
I do only live in Canada and don't get to the States that much 'cause of the wicked dollar... but I'd like to eventually visit NewYork, Boston, Chicago and the New England area.

I have so far been to Seattle, (all over Washington State), SanFransisco, and Las Vegas (where I might actually be re-locating to for a few years... ) lol and the Grand Canyon (uneblievable!!!)

The only thing that the USA lacks (and I am not meaning to disrespect anyone here...) is an interesting history and uhm.... *coughs* culture, but hey! the same can be said for Canada. :D

Now people... let's not forget about Canada! lol We are just as puuurrrrrty.

May I also add.... that I'd love to visit four corners and check out the desert more. I LOVE the desert......

hey, I'll jump on the Canadian tourist board bandwagon. :D I've seen some amazing stuff up there. Not only do they have the best side of Niagra Falls , but they have the best half of the Rockies too! Simply jaw-dropping gorgeous.

Took these last year on a road-trip out west in which we headed north of the border into B.C. and Alberta. Kootenai and Banff are just

nothing interesting or exciting?? I think you need to get out more, Giant Lemon!

Hey, I don't think there's nothing interesting or exciting in the US! I've been to a majority of the 50 states and have seen a lot of interesting things. IMHO, it just seems less exciting than a European country, for example. But I guess the grass is always greener on the other side!

Nice pics, sula! I can jump on the Canadian tourism bandwagon too. I've been to Victoria, Montreal, and Niagara falls, and it was all lovely.

About the US: I would love to go again. Especially more down south, I have only been to Boston. I so want to see New York and Florida!

As to Canada:
I was to Niagra Falls last week!
It was awesome. and yes the American side is LAME!!!

I blew 20 bucks at caino niagra as well. Niagra is a cool town.

Newfoundland is where its at!! If you want to get a pice of ireland in canada go here!

this is where I go to chill and relax

I suppose I'D like to visit certain places in the states someday, but for now there are a lot of countiries I think I'd rather visit, probably like to see the rest of Europe before I do anything else. There are even places in Ireland I havent seen that I'd like to.

what? we lack an interesting history? lmfao! what are you learning in canada? there is so much interesting history here! perhaps the puritans don't float your boat, but when you really start digging into colonial america  please don't get me started on american history...especially the world wars... at any rate, we do have a lot of interesting history.

and as for culture, it's pretty much our trademark to NOT have a specific culture. i mean, we are supposed to be the melting pot, so irish cultures mix with mexican cultures mix with swedish culture and so on. i mean, on the 4th of july, it's hard to just go out and do really americany things...i mean all we do is barbeque, swim, and enjoy fireworks. and now, that is american. but i can't really think of anything else that could possibly define american cuture...

It takes time to have a history and it also depends on when you country was formed. It is not like we have been around a long enough time to have history compared to other countries.

That was my point. I wasn't trying to disrespect anyone and I even stated that. I was just trying to show that the reason a lot of people prefer Europe over NA (and yes, I included Canada) is because of the richer history. That's what draws me to places. Sorry if anyone got offended, but I personally find both Canadian and American history to be extremely boring (and that has nothing to do with not knowing it, because I have studied history for an extremely long time and know what I am talking about). Furthermore, I am entitled to my opinion.

I've heard other people say too that America lacks culture, but that's because most of them only go to theme parks, casinos and the like. I'm not American (am originally from SE Asia), but I do agree with the others that the US is rich in culture and history.

I love Europe and miss it immensely, but I there are a lot of places here in the US that I think I need to see first...New Mexico, Montana, Seattle, New Orleans (should've been this summer, but still haven't the money for it :D). OTOH, the first place I went to in the US and have fallen in love with is New York. I'd love to live there someday before moving (I wish) to Europe. I just won't stop movin' around, eh? :tsk:

ooh, dizzy, where in SE Asia? *misses that part of the world* :(

As for America and culture...I think we have it...it's just fuzzier and more broad than a lot of other places, due to the fact that we have all kinds of people here.

The Philippines...great beaches, warm & friendly people, etc. Sadly, we haven't been looking good in the headlines recently.
:( Have you been there?

Sulawesi is in Indonesia, right? I've only been to Jakarta and Surabaya. :)

Yep, Sulawesi is probably the closest part of Indonesia to the Philippines. We used to catch TV from up there sometimes...which was really funny because the language sounds like you ought to be able to understand it, but you can't!

I'm American, but I lived there for 13 years (age 3 to 16) so my heart will always consider it home.

Not in the least Lilly, I was hoping that I hadn't offended either. Anyway... from one history nerd to another! lol
I do find bits and pieces somewhat interesting... but I just prefer older history, probably because I come from such a young country myself.

LOL... Some people also think we understand the Indonesian language, but we can't. They sound a bit the same.

Wow. Thirteen years is a long time. :)

Slow your roll home biscuit. I was not being defensive, and I did not take your post that way. I know gheto folks are known to be sarcastic and defensive but if I am going to be I usually post a face or indicate that I am being malicious or slight full in nature. I also posted because I actually know some thing about this topic. I was not trying to be bias either. I don't think that my countries history is "better" one than another. I like pretty much all history.

Hmmm, considering this was a non-Americans topic, i sure get the feel lots of US people are answering. :D

I dunno - maybe someday i'll visit USA or other European countries. So far i've been to Croatia, Italy, Germany. (on holidays, during summer and skiing in Italy)
