Ironically, that loco, R 28, is the only one of its kind that's still left! Not just of the NZR R class, but of its general design (single Fairlie) in the world. Hilariously enough, it was sold to the TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD. Apparently Timaruans aren't that superstitious. It eventually ended up in Reefton, and I think I need to make a pilgrimage to visit it one of these days.
