AMSTERDAM − Prince Floris van Vollenhoven has become the last prince of the Dutch Royal House of Oranje Nassau to marry.
Prince Floris (30) married Aimée Söhngen (28) in Naarden on Thursday. He is the fourth son of the Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven, and was the 10th in line to the Dutch throne. His mother is a younger sister of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
Prince Floris did not want to bother the Dutch First and Second Chambers of Parliament with an official request for permission to marry as the odds that he could ascend the throne in the future are negligible. His brother Pieter-Christiaan married earlier this year without first seeking approval from the Dutch government, resulting in the loss of the right to succession.
The civil marriage ceremony was performed by Mayor Peter Rehwinkel of Naarden. Dr. Anne van der Meiden will take the pulpit at the church wedding this coming Saturday.
Pics of the first wedding anyone?
