I reckon one of my mates could fix it for you. He brought his back from (the yellow light of) death. Pity he lives MUCH closer to me

If all I need to do is replace the drive, I can easily do it myself. But it's going to cost me $50, and possibly my sanity.

God, I wish I was better at writing cover letters. There are so many jobs I feel WELL qualified for, but I'm afraid my cover letters are sinking me.

I bought it off eBay and it's WELL past its warranty, and when I received it, it never even had its warranty sticker.

Sony will fix it for $130

So will a repair place.

I know how to fix it myself, but I need to know for sure first that the disc drive isn't married to the motherboard, or I'm wasting my time.

I also want to try calling Sony first, because some European PS3 owners did so and Sony replaced the lens for free. I'm pretty sure my motor died, and not the lens, but it's worth a shot.

The Yellow Light error was like a $300+ fix over here.

I'm not paying more than $100 to fix this thing, it only cost me $200. But there's no way I can buy a new one anytime soon.

I can still use it for shit, Netflix and the browser, but it pisses me off because I'd just bought two new games
