But anyway, enough about one of the most saddening band splits in rock history. :(

I don't know terribly much about The Division Bell, so I was wondering if anyone can help me. The intro to High Hopes...was it intentional to make musical references to past Pink Floyd songs? I always thought it was very cool how it all linked back. The bells at the beginning sound identical to the bells in Fat Old Sun and the buzzing/bird sounds sound the same as the effects used at the end of Grantchester Meadows. I'm thinking that it probably was intentional considering that there are some songs on the album that appear to make reference to Pink Floyd's past (despite Gilmour and co. saying that it doesn't.) I'm not sure, though.

interesting catch.

it very well could be :hmm:

I think the links to earlier albums may tie in somehow with that Publius enigma that was being talked about in message boards after the Div Bell release! I wonder if anyone solved it.

THE MESSAGE

My friends,

You have heard the message Pink Floyd has delivered,
but have you listened?

Perhaps I can be your guide, but I will not solve the enigma for you.

All of you must open your minds and communicate with each other,
as this is the only way the answers can be revealed.

I may help you, but only if obstacles arise.

Listen.

Read.

Think.

Communicate.

If I don't promise you the answers would you go.

Publius

:lmao:

They supposedly blew off the Publius Enigma as an EMI publicity stunt. I don't know if I completely buy that, though... :shifty: The whole thing was pretty weird. The "Enigma" that was written on the stage backdrop in the original PULSE video has been erased from the DVD release.

:hmm:

I bet it's that Gilmour ate Waters with a nice chianti and it's really been James Lipton in a Waters suit all these years. :hmm:

Pla, this is creepy. "Dear Clarice" from the Hannibal soundtrack came up on my shuffle just before you posted that.

When did Gilmour become the evil guy, Pla? :(

He wanted a piece of that Waters pie. With crust. Or something.

There are NO coincidences. :grumpy:

Hannibal Lecter isn't evil. Just misunderstood.

I could totally see him loving "One Of These Days."

By the way, have you guys looked at the Division Bell booklet? The liner notes & art work? There's supposedly numerous clues in there regarding the enigma! For instance, the Cluster One page... look at how those 3 monuments are spaced...

*lost in nostalgia*

Back in 94, I think I was still listening to my Disney cassette tapes. :( And my father hates every Floyd album post-The Final Cut, so I didn't even get to hear it that way, through him.

Nice to see more Sheep love! I adore that song.

That's a nice list. Do you have Animals? If not, I strongly recommend it!

Animals is thier must underrated album. It is one of those albums that if you don't listen to it for awhile then one day come back to it, you'll be blown away by it all over again. Any album that has a song about sheep overthrowing thier masters has to be a classic!
