"Perfect" Songs

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I agree with a lot of these songs mentioned.

Hmm...let's see here...listing a couple from some of my favorite bands:

"Message To My Girl", "One Step Ahead"-Split Enz
"A Sort Of Homecoming", "Tomorrow", "Angel Of Harlem"-U2
"Luna", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Magnolia"-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
"Into Temptation", "Don't Dream It's Over"-Crowded House
"Tempted", "Goodbye, Girl"-Squeeze
"Rain In The Summertime", "The Stand"-The Alarm

And some from some other artists:
"Crush"-Dave Matthews Band
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World"-Tears For Fears
"Golden Brown"-The Stranglers
"Alison"-Elvis Costello
"Penny Lane", "Eight Days A Week"-The Beatles (two of my all-time favorite songs of theirs)
"Ruby Tuesday"-Rolling Stones
"Love Street"-The Doors

That's all I can think of for now.

Angela

R.E.M.'s Country Feedback is THE most amazing song I've ever heard in my life. It's just indescribably good. I would say "perfect". I was so disappointed when they did not play it live when I saw them in October.

These songs are "perfect" to me but not necessarily the best ever...

U2 - One
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name
U2 - The Fly
U2's cover of Unchained Melody
Lamb - Gorecki
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien
Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Björk - Hyperballad

"Tempted", "Goodbye, Girl"-Squeeze

UK Squeeze!I had forgotten about them. I really need to get CD copies of all my old vinyl. I miss them.

A perfect song, not necessarily the lyrics:

"Just Cant Get Enough" - Depeche Mode
"Blue Monday" - Joy Division
"Talking to a Stranger " - Hunters and Collectors
"Icehouse" - Icehouse
"Fade to Grey" - Visage
"Almost With You" - The Church
"Unguarded Moment" - The Church
"Weather with You" - Crowded House
"To Look At You" - INXS
"So Many Men" - Youssou N'Dour

Actually, I dont often pay attention to lyrics, I have come to realise. Its all about the rhythm and melody, rhythm and melody. :)

My Hero - Foo Fighters
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Battery Check - Millencolin
Afghan - Millencolin
Sliver - Nirvana
Hitchin' a Ride - Green Day
Please - U2

I'm really getting into their music right now-I've been playing their greatest hits CD constantly since I got it, and I love it, and I want to look for the rest of their stuff. They really do have some excellent songs (seriously, if I were to ever make a list of my top 100 songs of all time, "Tempted" would definitely be in there. And "Goodbye, Girl" is just such a fun little singalong song).

Heh, they get a few extra bonus points from me, 'cause the other night, I was looking up the lyrics to their song "853-5937", and I found out that my name is mentioned in that song :D. Mega cool.

"The Blower's Daughter" Damien Rice

Ooh, forgot about that one.

I also want to add the Cranberries' "Zombie"-such an emotional song. And Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush's "Don't Give Up" (ooh, speaking of Peter, how in the world did I forget "In Your Eyes"?).

"Stay With Me Til Dawn" - Judy Tzuke

That is one of my all time fav songs :)

I'll also add:

U2 - Bad
U2 - Promenade
Radiohead - Street Sprit
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Let the Bells Ring
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Carry Me
Pink Floyd - Brain Damage/Eclipse
Pink Floyd - Time
Pink Floyd - Hey You

The Pogues - Lullaby of London

There are loads more, but can't think of them right now. My choices aren't necessarily musically or lyrically perfect (apart from Bad & Promenade :)), but for me, the combination of music & lyrics "work" :)

Mazzy Star - 'Fade Into You'

That is a good one, havent listened to that in a long time!

Mine are probebly more obvious than that one though. U2, there are too many of those and everyone has their own favorite there. As far as other artists:

-REM: Everybody Hurts (its the perfect sound and tone for the subject matter)
-Bruce Springsteen: Into The Fire (again, the subject matter makes it very moving for me).
-The Police: Every Breath You Take (the true meaning of the lyrics makes it rather disturbing but a perfect song musically)
-Coldplay: Clocks (honorable mention Shiver)
-Pearl Jam: Learning To Fly (especially live)
-INXS: Not Enough Time (Its the bass hook!! :) )
-The Cure: Pictures Of You
-Simple Minds: Ghostdancing

Aw, that sucks :(. Yeah, it'd be nice to find those.

Our family's record collection is still packed away at this time, but once we get them back, I'm gonna look through...I wonder if my parents have any of their records? That'd be cool if they did.

The Replacements - Left of the Dial
The Replacements - Swingin' Party
R.E.M. - Half a World Away
U2 - City of Blinding Lights
The Shins - New Slang
The Shins - Gone for Good

Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This, Your Children Will Be Next; Door to the River
Placebo - Special Needs; Burger Queen; The Bitter End; Without You I'm Nothing (David Bowie was totally unnecessary! )
AFI - ...But Home Is Nowhere

Idlewild - In Remote Part / Scottish Fiction
Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely; Pyramid Song; Climbing Up the Walls; Kid A...their list could go on and on, really
Concrete Blonde - Caroline; Close to Home
I think I'd better stop.

K, just read back through the other posts. I would like to agree with...

James - Don't Wait That Long (how I adore this song)
Lamb - Gorecki
U2 - Slug
Ben E. King - Stand By Me

and I'd like to add Joga by Bjork

Oh, IWB, that is my fucking FAVORITE Tossers song....perhaps along with Lucky (the hidden track on "Long Dim Road").

I would add:
The Pogues - Sally MacLennane
Pearl Jam - Given To Fly
Kid606 - GQ on the EQ
U2 - Running To Stand Still
Rolling Stones - Midnight Rambler
Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue
Dropkick Murphys - Upstarts and Broken Hearts

there are others but I'm a wee bit tipsy and can't think of 'em.

Cripes this is a class thread. Seriously!
I think I'm burning some cds this weekend

Agree completely with Massive Attack - Teardrop.

Need to add:
10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant - Because the night. Does anyone know if this was originally a Springsteen song? Or did he co-write it with her? He's associated somehow and I can't work out why.
