I'll stop or I could go on and on posting pics

One of the stranger (and scarier) things I've experienced while on holiday was in Bali. We were on a tour to go up in the mountains and see a volcano - along the road our bus was stopped by what looked like militia carrying big guns :yikes:.
I'm not sure what was said (it was all in indonesian) but our driver appeared to hand over cash to the ?militia to let us through. We just sat very very quietly in the back of the bus.
I'm sure this kind of corruption goes on everywhere in the world, but it was a little scary at the time. Can't help but wonder what would have happened if our driver hadn't paid up?

Unfortunately most of the 'big' holidays i've been on were before i got a digital camera, so not much in the way of pictures to post here :(

Great pics, everyone!

Not necessarily odd, but certainly disturbing - meeting a terrorist while I was going to school in Northern Ireland. :yikes: His name is Michael Stone. I can't believe I'm smiling in this picture.

That still really frightens me. What did it feel like meeting him?

I am sure I told you about the story about getting caught up in the two British corporals getting pulled out of their car who were beaten and shot dead. It sent my Mum into an early labour with my sister. My parents lifting me and my brother and running to hide in someones house is my first memory. We drove right into it, it happened at the end of my aunt's street.

hey back at ya!

So well travelled! :D

I remember watching Sula's plane take off for one of her adventures.

Memorieeeeees! Hey, you should try to be back in the Cities the last week of May cuz I will be there. Brunch at Molly Quinn's or else! :grumpy:

Hmm, well most of my photos from my last trip were taken by me so not a lot of me in them. I used to have buckets of great pics from my forays into all parts of Europe (including Bono's house and all the U2 spots in Dublin), but then stupid Snapfish went and deleted my account.

I do remember hearing your story. That's very frightening.

Honestly - at the time (6 yrs ago), it was really thrilling. We had to go through a lot of measures to get to his safe house with nobody following us. We were following a car in these taxis, and going at high speeds. The amount of security was insane, but it was kinda fun - it felt like we were in an action movie or something.

It was really fascinating talking with him, but at the same time I was totally creeped out seeing this guy in person, who had murdered people and felt no regret over it. He was very charming, and he did a good job of trying to convince us that he was a nice guy who didn't mean any harm. None of us bought it, though. He's a very disturbing man.

Afterwards I was even more freaked out, because for our safety we weren't allowed to talk about the experience until we came back to Canada. If certain people knew we had met him, who knows what they would have done to us to get us to give up his safe house location.

All in all, it was a crazy experience, but it's an interesting story to tell. It's not every day that one meets an infamous person like Michael Stone! I'm just glad he's back in jail (at least I assume that's where he is after that bomb incident at Stormont the other month).

Cool. Rome was Awesome. We went for the millineum Party. My younger brother and his choir were invited by Pope John Paul II. The Vatican was so impressive. Venice was beautiful as was Pompeii.

your hair looks SO COOL! how did you do that?

Well, technically I just sat on my arse for about 8 hours while a couple of girls braided it. It's what they call "rasta" braids (in Mali at least) my hair mixed with artificial hair and then I bought some wooden beads and slipped them up to the top of each braid in the front. Incidentally, on that trip to Timbuktu, I was formally introduced to the President and First Lady of Mali, and the First Lady complimented me on that hairstyle. (Within Mali, she's known to be quite a fashion plate, so it was a huge compliment for me. lol)
