Monterey or Woodstock?

Of the two great festivals (some people would argue Altamont, but I doubt many of those would think it was 'great') of the 60's rock/pop scene, which would you have preferred to go to?

June 16-18, 1967
Monterey, CA

June 16
The Association
The Paupers
Lou Rawls
Johnny Rivers
Eric Burdon & The Animals
Simon & Garfunkel

June 17
Canned Heat
Big Brother & The Holding Company
Country Joe & The Fish
Al Kooper
The Butterfield Blues Band
Quicksilver Messenger Service
The Steve Miller Band
The Electric Flag
Moby Grape
Hugh Masekela
The Byrds
The Butterfield Blues Band
Laura Nyro
Jefferson Airplane
Booker T & The MG's (with the Mar-Keys)
Otis Redding

June 18
Ravi Shankar
The Blues Project
Big Brother & The Holding Company
The Group With No Name
Buffalo Springfield
The Who
The Grateful Dead
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Scott McKenzie
The Mamas & The Papas

Monterey is usually identified as the beginning of the "Summer of Love", and also is associated with the breakthrough performances of Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane.

August 15-18, 1969
Bethel, NY

August 15
Richie Havens
Country Joe MacDonald
John B Sebastian
Swami Satchadinanda
Bert Sommer
Tim Hardin
Ravi Shankar
Arlo Guthrie
Joan Baez

August 16
Keef Hartley
Canned Heat
The Incredible String Band
The Grateful Dead
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Janis Joplin
Sly & The Family Stone
The Who
Jefferson Airplane

August 17
Joe Cocker
Max Yasgur
Country Joe & The Fish
Ten Years After
The Band
Blood Sweet and Tears
Johnny Winter
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

August 18
Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Jimi Hendrix

Given the choice to go back in time and be at ONE of these festivals, which would you choose? Or maybe some other?

I would've gone to Woodstock, for sure! I mean I'd heard of the name ever since I was a kid and was just getting into music.

On the other hand, I don't even know about this Monterey festival you talk about.

Woodstock -- if only for the atmosphere

I can't decide based on the music... but I would have loved Woodstock for the people

I'm tempted to ask a mod to add some other festivals such as Live Aid...

But I won't.

Monterey, for sure.

It was the model for every other music festival that followed (Woodstock, Coachella, Glastonberry, etc.).

First major appearance for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding.

When I was young, I remember listening to records of the performances with my dad. It's good stuff.

I'm sure I never post in here.

Monterey.....Otis Redding could have been the only act and it would be infinitely worth it.
