The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

big fan of chocolate

I love their song Chocolate by the stations around here haven't added any songs from eyes open to the rotation. I will have to check out their stuff elsewhere.

Try the bands website or internet radio. I'm starting to come around to more songs on this album. I heard Hands Open in the car today and it sounded fantastic. Sometimes you need to be cruising down the highway, instead of on the couch in the living room, for a song to shine through.

Kind of off topic but I didn't want to start a whole new thread- Martha Wainwright (sp?) is on Rachel Fuller and Pete Townshend's show tonight. She was really good, and funny too. It will be replayed until tomorrow morning- the link to watch is on www.intheattic.tv :)

Mediatraffic numbers for global sales are in:

Here are the results for the first two weeks of release:

Week 1 (148,000 copies sold)
Week 2 (129,000 copies sold)

Eyes open has topped the UK and Irish album charts. In the USA it hit #34, Netherlands #26, Australia #36, Canada #26, France #108.

The album was released in some places on May 1 and other places May 8 or May 9. With the album released everywhere around the globe now, total global sales are 277,000. Snow Patrol's East Coast dates in the USA rapidly soldout a few days after the release of the album here in the USA.

Soundscan total for "Eyes Open" first week in the USA was 36,191. Thats a bit more than the 5,000 copies Final Straw sold in its first week two years ago.

In terms of how I'm liking "Eyes Open", at this point I'd say its walking all over "Final Straw" now. This album is fantastic!

Well, this sucks...

TONIGHTS SHOW IN ATLANTA AND WEDNESDAY IN DC POSTPONED!!!!
Body: Hello all

Ive some bad news.

Were going to have to postpone the shows today, May 29, in Atlanta and Wednesday, May 31st in D.C.

We are trying to add these shows in at the end of this tour. Failing that we are back to do some radio shows in mid-August and we will schedule them there.

The reason for this is my voice is in pieces. You may have seen us on Good Morning America this morning and if you did youll be aware I barely scraped through it and that was only one song.

When we began the Eyes Open tour in Feb of this year I was told by my doctor a few days before hand that I had laryngitis and it would be best if I took a week off to recover. I told him I didnt have a week as we had shows pretty much every day. All the gigs so far have been a struggle for me. Unfortunately now I can barely hit any notes. My entire upper range has disappeared into a whisper.

Some of you may come to the conclusion that this is because were a party band and were out every night getting messed up. Yes we like a drink. I however have taken it reasonable easy since Feb in that department and I havent been drinking on this US tour at all and Ive every intention of not partying for the duration of it. In fact Ive been in the gym every morning and eating right.

In short Im taking it very seriously. The simple fact is that my voice is worn out.

I am doing everything possible to get it working again. I am seeing a specialist in New York tomorrow who hopefully will be able to help. Ive even agreed (horror of all horrors!!) to see a voice coach.

If there was any way to sing two full shows and do a full days promo in Atlanta and D.C believe me I would. The reason why the two shows have been affected is to give me four days to recover.

We refuse to cancel gigs which is why we will do everything in our power to find available dates (when we too are available) in those venues for the not to distant future.

I am so sorry for this to all of you who have bought tickets especially those of you who have travelled long distances to these shows. Of course we will make sure that these tickets are still valid, as I say they arent cancelled theyre just postponed. Well give you the info for the new shows as soon as we know.

Lots of love, gary.x

I hope he takes it easy, as I know most of us have tickets to go see them very soon...

I am glad it is postponed. I thought I skipped it tonight, until I logged on to see it was postponed. Maybe when they get the shows added on at the end of the tour, I will be in the mood for the concert.

this happened to me too on the Final Straw tour :(

originally the concert was scheduled for Sept 2004, but it was postponed until May 2005... it'll be one year ago today, in fact!

I hope he's well enough by Friday for Boston.

I'm afraid he's not going to be... :(

BOSTON POSTPONED!!

Hello all.

Im terribly sorry about all this. I of course appreciate all your kind words over the last few days but I also know that is must be frustrating for all you guys with tickets.

I saw a specialist yesterday and had to wait until the venues and various folk were informed before I could post. I understand that the Boston show has already been taking down. Im sorry it didnt come from me but this is true. Ill now tell you why.

The specialist (who treats such luminaries as Celine Dion and Aliass Ron Rifkin. Odd pairing) found something more than just a sore throat. Using a long metal device, which I dont relish ever being pushed down into my vocal chords again (roll on Thursday for my follow-up), the doctor found two polypoid lesions (or polyps) on my left vocal chord. These are caused by vocal abuse or over-use and look like little blisters on the chords.

So what am I doing to hurry my recovery? The thing is, as innocuous as these little polyps look, they are the early stages of something, potentially, a lot more worrying. They could, if unchecked, lead to the other side of my chords over compensating and in doing so gain some polyps of their own. They could also lead to muscular problems outside the chords due to the same over-compensation. The good news is that the doc seems to think that we caught them early and she is not too worried as things stand. She has prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs and complete vocal rest for the next few days. I see her again tomorrow to see if the drugs and rest have had a quick impact (which she thinks they may have). Unfortunately she is out of town this weekend so I cant see her before the New York show but tomorrows check-up may show enough progress for her to be happy with me having the few more days of rest before Saturday to be fine for New York.

I am fine otherwise and I am sticking to her very simple regime. Ill tell you this, New York is a hard city to watch from a hotel room but there are worse things in life. For example, not being able to sing again.

I am so very sorry about all this. It is completely my fault for not taking better care of my voice. The voice is an instrument and I should learn to take care of it as such. When I have it back and working again I wont take it for granted anymore.

Thank you all for your kind words. They mean a lot. We are at present trying to reschedule these postponed shows for as soon as possible. All details will be made available to you when we know.

Im off to be silent. Sshh! I mean, sshh.x

This sounds scary... Hopefully things get better for him soon so he's 100% for when the shows do take place.

Over the past two weeks the Eyes Open album had sales of 82,000 and 66,000 worldwide. Total global sales for Eyes Open now stand at 425,000! In the United States, the album has fallen to #72 this week. Total sales in the United States are close to 70,000!

I hope Gary feels better soon!

More postponed dates!

NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA, MONTREAL AND TORONTO POSTPONED!

I had another check up yesterday and my little friends are still hanging on for dear life and my throat looks raw apparently. To be honest I still find it hard to look at it long enough to see what the doc is getting at. I believe her though.

She said for me to take a week from yesterday to recover. So the first gig I would be ready for would be Friday the 9th in Pontiac, Michigan. This would mean postponing a few more dates of course.

However, straight after seeing the doc the elite triumvirate of our agent (Marty Diamond), our manager (Jazz Summers) and our tour manager (Neil Mather) sprang into action like some magical, yet functionary, ballet to reschedule the dates. For the most part they will be added to the end of this US tour in and around the last week of June.

I hope that you can all make these new dates and I’m sorry again for hassle.

g.x

The rescheduled dates are as follows:

Please note the change of venues in Atlanta and Boston. This means there will be more tickets available for those of you who missed out the first time. Montreal has been put into the October tour schedule, which will be announced in the coming months.

June 22nd - Atlanta, Tabernacle
June 23rd - Washington DC, 930 club
June 25th - Toronto, Kool Haus
June 26th - Philadelphia, Electric Factory
June 27th - New York, Roseland
August 15th - Boston, Bank of America Pavilion

Well, Detroit just got postponed.

In looking at the SP message board, a 38 year old male fan from Holland, MI who also saw SP in Dublin (like I did) with U2 was going to the show. Where is Blue Room from?

:hmm:

They're just lucky we didnt make the drive. Pontiac is a good one hour drive from my house, and Friday traffic in that area is a nightmare.
