You know, Sci-Fi is part of NBC Universal, and with all the crap on regular TV, you'd think with the accolades this show has gotten (Peabody Award anyone?) that NBC would add it to its own schedule so it can get more of an audience.

It's one of the best shows on TV right now. I think it should be simulcast on NBC Friday nights so others who don't get Sci-Fi channel can check it out.

And then we'd get it in HD, too (don't get me started on that).

Wow, what a premiere.

This show is fascinating in so many ways, watching how it draws parallels to things happening in real-life here. It's not afraid to tackle serious issues and make you think long and hard about them.

Definitely! I guess, being a first time viewer, I had never realized how interesting the show is in that regard... I watched a couple of the episodes during the marathon on Friday and one that I saw was the one where abortion came up. No flinching, they dealt with it. I'd never seen a show do that before.

Totally agreed. I found it offensive that they didn't even nominate the show for an Emmy. They had no excuse as the awards people were sent screening DVDs. Is it because it's on the "sci-fi" channel and therefore is pure sci-fi, that's why it can't make the cut?

Not sure why NBC doesn't show BSG on Fridays... since they own SCIFI I believe, but maybe there's some sort of contractual thing that doesn't allow them to show it. But then again, if they were able to show an ep or two like a year ago, they could manage something right?

I'm sure it could be done if they wanted to do it. There's a rumor floating around that NBC might make Battlestar a mid-season replacement, although that's probably not going to happen.

My own selfish reasons for wanting the show on NBC was so I could watch it in HD, as Sci-Fi isn't available in that format yet. I also liked the idea of a larger audience experiencing what BG is all about (since most people only know the original 70s version). But someone made a good point somewhere (can't remember where I read it) that if the show got moved to NBC, it might suffer from some of the controversial story lines, as it would be more noticeable on a major network. I like BG the way it is, dark and edgy, and would hate to see pressure from the outside change the dynamic of the show, and a move to NBC might inadvertantly do that.

So if they offered to show it on the Universal HD channel at the same time as Sci-Fi, at least I'd get it in HD without any of the risks.

:D

As much as I think it would be cool to increase the number of people that would watch it, I think it would also be detrimental to the quality of the show. They'd probably have to bring back Boxey and the Moffet thingy, and all the dark storylines would need to be replaced by happy endings. All in all it would ruin the show, in my opinion. I would very much like to see their budget increase, but I'd rather the show remain good. It's the best show on TV and that's the way I like it.

My selfish reason for BSG on NBC: HD and I'm cable deprived, so I hate to wait for a tape of it two days later to see it.

Would be cool though if they did put it on network TV. Then maybe they could shed that whole 'pure sci-fi' "stigma" that they have.

I know. It's going to be ridiculous. I really want to know what the plan is. And I wonder if some major characters are going to die. I can't imagine a mission of this size withough casualties.

have only seen this show sporadadicly b/c I don't have cable.
In fact i think I missed most of season 2 :uhoh:

However i did get to see the Story so far...then the 2 hour opening. And last week saw the second [& regular 1 hour ep].
Just so happened i was house sitting for a friend at these points.
WOOOHOOO!!!!!

Only now i go back to sporadic status :madspit:

:hmm: I'm thinking THIS TIME [season] go on, read reviews, and then watch it as i can at friends house.

BTW>>>>>>>
It reminds me of the quality of plot & characters of  Babylon 5!
In fact the Newsday[nyc/LI] TV critic who loved B5, also really loved this early one. ;)

Black guy? I don't recall seeing that.

He was the one with the dreadlock-y look.

On a BSG related note: just got my Season 2 companion guide in from the mail today. Yay! If you guys are interested in purchasing it, it's like 9 something on Overstock.

You can rent the season 1 and 2 DVDs. A lot of real good stuff in there. ANd the mini-series plot as well, which was excellent.

Just a note on that, if you apply for Chase's BSG Credit Card , after the first purchase, they send you the whole season 1 DVD set (inc. the miniseries). Just wanted to throw it out there for those who don't know about it.

If it was decided that all TV programs were going to be taken off the air, and there would be nothing to watch but BSG 24 hours a day on 200 channels, I'd be cool with that. Freakin amazing show. This weeks episode totally stepped it up again. And next weeks looks dope too.

Definitely amazing. We all knew Pegasus was coming back, but it went out in a blaze of glory. And I love how Galactica jumped into the atmosphere of New Caprica - total surprise there.

I just love the pace of this show - it doesn't miss a beat. And next week's episode looks delicious...

What I found so amazing is the when it seemed Galatica was going down, though obvisouly you knew it wasn't , but when the base stars were shotting it up, it was like watching a character get beat down, and you felt for it. And when it happened to Pegasus, same thing. It was so appropriate for Lee to say "Thank you" as he was leaving. Just amazing the emotions that the writers can get you to feel. Brilliant.

Oh, and when Pegasus showed up, you knew it was coming, but it was still cool as hell. Just showing up guns blazing.

The jump into the atmospehere was so cool. Just awesome. And I loved the angle they used to show it, of chief looking up and seeing this little ship way up, and then you realize what's going on. Ugh.

That wowed me too! I think I even said aloud, "Did Galactica just jump into the atmosphere?!?!?!"

 Pegasus

Oh yeah, and Baltar has got endless tear ducts. I swear that man cries all the time

And what about the two kids? That blew me away, too... first that Kasey (or how ever it's spelled) was NOT Kara's kid and then that the Cylons have Hera!

And Adama shaved his moustache! wow.

Do you thin kJammer had something to do with Mia's death? He was supposed to escort her and Hera to the ship, but he made it, she didn't. And he had a guilty look on his face later on. If so, why?

And they way Tigh took care of Ellen. I hated her character, but was still sad to see her go.

Oh, and in the previous episode Anders is supposed to guard Hera, but....he didnt. Did her lie to Roslin? They made a big deal out of it, and then it was like it never happened.

I know! I was puzzled about the Anders thing too... I guess maybe he was more interested in finding Kara?

I definitely think there was some foul play going on with Mia. In fact, that was my first thought as they were heading to the transport. I said to myself, "There's no way she's making it to Galactica."

Ellen  And then he looked so lost when he was back on Galactica.

I keep forgetting that Galactica has been orbiting without ground contact for like 4 months... a lot can happen during that time to distance you from the people you've known.

I just watched the episode yesterday and I've gotta say, they stepped it up so many notches from their previous episodes it wasn't even funny.

I agree, I hated Ellen too, but I teared up when Tigh had to take her out. It was so sad, yet you know it had to be done. At least she went out peacefully. I wonder how this'll affect Tigh now that he's back on Galactica. You see he's a broken man, but will it cause a rift between him and the old man?
You know, since when they got back onto the ship, everyone was praising Adama when Tigh has absolutely nothing really to live for anymore.

And re:Anders, didn't he have two of his "best men" to protect Mia?

I have a question though, if the Cylons are leaving New Caprica, and D'anna didn't set off the nuke, couldn't the colonials have still settled on New Caprica? By that I mean, after the cylons leave, couldn't Galactica have just have the raptors come back, survey the place and still settle? This is assuming that the cylons just left without looking back now.

But I doubt that the writers would've wanted to continue with the New Caprica storyline just like they let Pegasus go... what a sad day indeed.

Can't wait 'til next week when we see Galactica as they were back in season 1, still the ragtag fleet, only this time there's the Hague going on.
