Now we arrive at Marble Bar - no, not a pub, but one of the hottest places on earth, in Western Australia. In this hellish place, a world record was set for the most days with daily maximums above 100F/37.8C - 160 of them from 31 October 1923 to 7 April 1924! There are no unusual geographical features that create this harsh climate - it's just hell. The record highest temperature recorded is 49.2C.

Incidentally, the town's name is a mistake. It was named after a jasper bar mistaken for marble.

Now, speaking of bars, pubs, and drinking establishments, the local watering hole is impractically built out of CORRUGATED IRON. American miners gave it the name Ironclad Hotel as it reminded them of Ironclad ships in the US. It's now a registered heritage building.

Depends what's your preference. In the southeast here, it's fucking hot in terms of degrees Celsius, but dry. Up in Queensland, it's not quite so harsh in degrees Celsius, but the humidity ranges from uncomfortably sticky to veritably suffocating.

The other difference between regions is that somewhere like Melbourne can have a wildly varying range of temperatures, i.e. 22 one day, 31 the next, 40 the next, then down to 21, while in Queensland, it can just hover around the low to mid 30s without any change for weeks on end.

I firmly maintain that 40 in Melbourne is only as bad as 32 in Queensland, purely because of the humidity up north. With a steady supply of cold water, I can handle a dry heat. Humidity's just ... all kinds of unpleasant.

I'm used to humidity, having grown up in Asia, and I find that dry heat really dries me out (surprisingly). That being said, a steady 20-26 degrees would be ideal for me, with occasionally extremely heavy rain (none of this Melbourne "rain" rubbish).

Personally, I'm most content with the temperature around 15-17 and a light breeze. I'll go up to 20 or 21 if you make the breeze a bit stronger.

Being in the desert, we get dry heat. It's only humid just before and just after it rains. Rain that's usually accompanied by some badass thunderstorms. The kind that can rip 60-year-old trees out of the ground, shatter windows, and flatten outbuildings.
