I honestly don't get why people view Australia as some particularly dangerous place. If you're hanging out in urban Australia, you're no less safe than in urban North America or Western Europe - in fact, you're probably safer. Usually you've got to actually go looking for some sort of beastie to actually get in trouble.

I mean, at least we don't have the West Nile virus or ticks running around carrying Lyme disease or anything. I'll take my chances with a huntsman that's probably much more wary of me, thank you very much.

I must admit, in reality, urban Australia is probaly as close to the future utopian cities of old sci-fi b-movies as we're ever gonna get.

Of course, we could all just flee to New Zealand where there's almost nothing to worry about when it comes to animals. Probably the worst that will happen there is that a kea will pinch your car's window wipers if you leave it parked in some isolated wilderness carpark.

Every day for the past week I've been meaning to sort my clothes so that I can just throw them in garbage bags when it's time to go. Still haven't done it.
But I have bought most of my furniture and electrical stuff.

Just have to do a run through the supermarket for detergent, shampoo, broom that sort of stuff.

You know what's worse than birds singing all night? Crickets chirping incessantly all night. The volume on some Queensland crickets is pretty bloody loud, and of course you don't want to close the window because it's fucking hot and any whiff of a breeze you can get through the open window is valuable.
