For those of you in Latin America, I am sure that you are familiar with Mafalda... that little Argentine girl from a Buenos Aires middle class family who was published by Quino in the mid-sixties and seventies and truly transformed strip history.

For those of you who don't know her and since, unfirtunately, Mafalda has never been translated to English, I wanted to share with you some masterpieces:

Mom: Mafalda! Since you are cleaning, why don't you clean the globe?

Mafalda: Do you want me to clean all the countries? Or just the ones with bad governments?

mi2.gif

Lady: Some help for the poor kids... oh, thanks!

Some help for the poor kids...

Guille: I am amazed at the amount of stuff that a pencil can have inside of it...

g15.gif

Susanita: Hey Guille, do you want some of my sandwich?

Mafalda: No, he will never have baloney...

g12.gif

Dad: Well, Guille is big enough and we would have no problem in putting her here with Mafalda...

Mom: And you say, bring her little bed over, right?

Dad: Sure!

Guille (to Mafalda): They want you to be my wife!

g29.gif

Dad: Guille, come!

Let's build a castle! A castle with a king! Come on, bring me your stuff!

Guille: I cannot lend them to you for silly stuff, I am building apartments...

g28.gif

Guille: Right... he surely sucks imports...

Mom: Felipe, wake up, it's 7:15!

Felipe (asleep): Yes, mom, I am coming...

Contractor: Wait, wait! The demolition was not in this block!!!!

Felipe: How does my imagination manage to wake up before me?

Teacher: Let's see, Libertad, this is a triangle... how?

Libertad: As God Made It!

Teacher: No, no, take a better look, if all these three sides measure the same it is a triangle...

Libertad: Very Boring!

Teacher: No! A triangle with all equal sides is called...

Libertad: Ah! Socialist!

Apparently, I could not post from the first website... I re-posted from a different one and translated the strips myself.

Enjoy!

Guille!!!

Actually I love all of them, even Susanita!

And to answer your question from the ther thread, no I have no Argentinean blood in me, but she was pretty big in Mexico too. And well, she's particularly important in my house.

Trying to remember stuff that we use often in my house

"Y si mejor la pateo?" (if I kick it instead) From the strip in which Guille is unable to pronounce Democracia

"se estara psicoanalizando de incognito?" (is she getting psychoanalyzed incognito?)

"o se acabo la pintu o llego la censu"
(either the pain ran out or the censor... got here while looking at a half finished protest mural)

Hmm and tons others.. need to think here, they usually just come naturally

ah yes!

"Bajita como el nivel de vida" is another one we use often

It really is....

*might have to sneak the Mafalda big ass book that dad brought from Buenos Aires a few years back*

another one we love is

"ah que, ahora rebasar pelagatoz es notizia?"

I love the one where Mafalda and Guille are having dinner and she refuses to have her soup (as usual). Then, when Mafalda is about to say something to their ma, the little one just stucks the spoon on her mouth and she runs to the toilet.

Actually, when I was in primary school, everybody used to call me Mafalda cus I had the same fecking haircut! :madspit:

I met Quino at a bookfair many many years ago and he is a very sweet man. HE even drew a Mafalda for me that said soemthing like: To Flavia, with love...

Flavia, you should post a scan of it if you have some time... :hyper:

That is awesome Flavia! :hyper: And yes, that one is a great strip...

So Mafalda inedita does have different stuff than the back section of Toda Mafalda? :hmm:

Went to my parents today, and about 30 minutes in, my mom dropped a reference!

Me rehuso a que me anden cosiendo y descosiendo el futuro!

Hmmm... you might be right, I think that everything that is in Mafalda Inedita is also in Toda Mafalda, which, I think, was released later...

:hmm:

Mafalda: I cannot stand to see homeless people.

Susanita: Me too.

Mafalda: We should give housing, protection and jobs to the homeless.

Susanita: Why so much? Couldn't we just hide them?

mi15.gif

Miguelito: Is any of you named Miguelito?

...

This bugs must have some horrible names...

ma39.gif

Mafalda: My God, what a bad show!

...

Sorry, I'm just used to it.

ma50.gif

Mafalda: ... another one who thought that all that we have ahead is the future.

Mafalda: The problem with a lot of countries is that they have almost always had candy-governments.

Miguelito: Cando governments? What in the hell is a candy-government?

Mafalda: How long does a candy last you?

Miguelito: Understood.

Condorito over Mafalda?

They're not even in the same category of comic strip... :tsk:

Condorito is pure (slightly pervy) fun, Mafalda has social commentary on top o' the fun...
