London, anyone?... since it's not official apparently.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

For selfish reasons I'm going to London/Chelsea during the first week of September... any British gents or ladies have suggestions for places to visit? Within a reasonable vicinity.

Any stories about dear old London, that may help me to avoid an early expulsion from the ancient bird?

PS- no one follow me there. That would be creepy.

Thanks for your suggestions, they are appreciated and oft times recognized.

Must sees: Tower of London, Trafagliar (sp?) Square, at least one show in the West End, Maddam Tussaud's Wax Museum.

The people are wonderful, so I'm sure they'll tell you of other sites. Also---the street performers (mimes, etc) are fun to watch.

Camden market on a sunday,...

Yeah, definitley. Camden is a great place. And if you like Indian food then try Brick Lane. It's an entire street of Indian restaurants:up:

BTW Rono:

Sons of men who stand like gods
We give life to feed the cause
And run to ground our heathen foe
Our name will never die
This time will be forever

Oh yes!

wow that's really cool! I hope you have fun. Try not to catch any(more) venereal diseases while you're there. I've never been there so i don't have any advice. Take lots of pics!

can you bring me back a London Fog trench coat? and something signed by the Spice girls........

Done and done.

I'll send you a photograph (ala Def Leppard) of my chest signed with lipstick.

I was also wondering about any music gigs worth checking out...

PS- meeganie... it's business. I'm sure you're not interested. Don't worry, I'll maintain a twelve block radius of restraint.

How about the Tate Modern? The Ten Bells pub is cool if you're into uh...serial killer history. Drink a few pints of cider for me. Can't get cider like that over here, and man do I miss it!

Seriously, I know this is really touristy, but if you want to see the sights quickly and easily take one of the Hop on Hop off tours. You buy a pass and the buses take you around town. There is a guide aboard who tells you stuff. If a sight sounds interesting you can get off and see it and then catch the next bus. You can skip anything you want.

If you like art, the British Museum and the Tate Museum are excellante!!!

See a show if you can. There are places where you can get cheap same day tickets.

Of course, there are also the Pubs.

Look into a transit pass. Last time I was in London, I got a three-day pass for the Underground and all buses for one price. There were times I would ride a bus to the end of its line just to visit a different part of town. A great deal.

screw the stalker-talk. can i come with you? we can work out the details of stuffing me in your trunk and developing a top secret material that makes the x-ray machines at the airports think you're just bringing clothes.

Thanks everyone, keep it coming.

PS- IWB, I'll see what I can do... although, I don't know how I'll stow you in the overhead compartment. I suggest taking yoga, or a contortionist class.

This sounds like the perfect activity for you in England

Mystery rambler reveals naked ambition

LONDON (Reuters) - A naked rambler sighted on some of Britain's most famous walking trails has broken cover and revealed it is his ambition to walk the length of the country in the nude.

Steve Gough made headlines earlier this week when police in Yorkshire reported several sightings of a rambler wearing nothing but his boots, a rucksack and a floppy hat.

Gough, 44, an unemployed lorry driver, told the Times he was blazing a trail against antiquated indecency laws and establishment attitudes.

"Every pioneer is criticised for putting their head above the parapet, but this is something that I believe in and I think a lot of the public do too," he was quoted as saying in the Times' Thursday edition.

His clothes-free journey from Cornwall to northern Scotland has so far earned him 11 escorts to police stations, five arrests, two charges and a night in a psychiatric hospital, the Times said.

Most of the walk has been on remote footpaths, where passing ramblers have greeted Gough with either smiles or "fixed gazes at the middle distance".

But he has also walked naked through towns, including the coastal resort of St Ives in Cornwall, where he was promptly arrested.

cujo;

It depends what kind of person you are and what you want to do, really! Provide more details to narrow it down, I'll see what I can do...

Ant.

hmm...

Definitely Camden, as people have said...Covent Garden is a touristy, yet fun area to hang out, shop...lots of outside cafes, etc. Soho has some fun bars, cheap places to eat. Borough market on a friday or saturday morning, then a walk along south bank is really nice. Umm...I'll think more. As for tourist attractions, the tower of london is really good. When my parents were here, we did the bus tour - as much as I hated the idea of something so blatantly tacky-touristy, it was well worth it. You see everything. I saw more in one day than 9 months. Anyway, I'll try to think more...

I was thinking about taking a venture to the futbol pitch... although it may be a little less polite than I am used to. Thanks for the suggestions guys... I think I'm set for tourist traps. I'm focusing more on the off-beat type stuff, like seeing some band club dates or something.

camden barfly is a good venue...the ulu (university of london union) has good bands sometimes...umm...there are other ones...the scala, although it's in a sketchy area. I'll post if i think of any good gigs during that time!

So true! Now I want a PINT.

Go ahead Cujo, make me jealous of your trip to London:

~LadyLemon~ suggest exactly what I would want to do first...go to the Tate Modern (and drink).

JKAYET's suggestion of local music would be goal number two.

ANd Yertle's suggestion of football/futbol/soccer would be my third choice.

Go ahead...make me so jealous I will want to pull off my own toenails to be in your shoes (minus the goat-loving, bra-wearing-as-a-uniform part).
