I just learned of "Gravity" by Coldplay from the "Talk" single. It's an excellent tune.

Another favorite is PJ Harvey's "Memphis," from "Good Fortune." It's about the death of Jeff Buckley and it's incredible.

What B-sides do you like?

Half Light by Porcupine Tree.
Spanish Eyes by U2.
Full On by Oasis.

Speaking of PJ Harvey, This Wicked Tongue is just as good as anything on Stories From the City...

She also opened with it when I saw her with U2.

Whenever I listen to the album, I put this first as a lead track. It's a great intro.

I haven't heard that Oasis one. I'll check it out.

I always liked "Talk Tonight," I think from Wonderwall. Great tune.

Yes, it was Now We're Getting Somewhere's b-side (and I think it cropped up as a b-side a couple more times, actually) before appearing on the Afterglow rarities CD.

I personally think it is easily the best song the Crowdies have ever done.

Ah.... Afterglow is a rarities CD... I was wondering about that, I thought it was an album.

what a b side  asnd you're right, definitely up there

Lady With The Spinning Head

Also Robbie Williams tends to have strong B-sids - Berliner Star, Come Take Me Over, Better Days...

However being the popslut that I am -

  although, I've only heard the Adrenalize version and it rocks too!

As for my list, I don't think I know b-sides of too many bands but anyway, here goes...

Oasis - Talk Tonight, Going Nowhere, Listen Up, Rockin' Chair, Half The World Away, The Masterplan
Radiohead - Cuttooth, Fog
Coldplay - Gravity, Sleeping Sun, Crests of Waves
The Beatles - Rain, The Inner Light
Led Zeppelin - Traveling Riverside Blues (may not be a b-side but it is my fav non-album song of theirs!)
U2 - Love Comes Tumbling, Deep In The Heart, Luminous Times, Walk To The Water, Spanish Eyes, Lady With The Spinning Head, Satellite Of Love, Even Better Than The Real Thing (Perfecto Mix), Holy Joe (Guilty Mix)....... too many to list

Keane - Fly to Me
Keane - Under Pressure
U2 - Party Girl
U2 - Spanish Eyes
U2 - Walk to the Water
U2 - Luminous Times

PJ Harvey's 'Memphis' is complete and utter brilliance.

A recent discovery that I've liked a lot is 'Gates of the West' by the Clash. It's sung by Mick Jones and has some very neat guitar work.

And Belle and Sebastian have some lovely songs on their singles, but they're not necessarily B-sides I guess 'cos most of them are on EPs and stuff. 'Your Cover's Blown' is a particular favourite.

James - Runaground

That's a B-Side?! But that was (and is) my favourite James song! I've only got their 1998 Best Of (I know, I hang my head in shame) you see so I didn't realise.

As for my other favourite B-sides I'd go with Snowed Under by Keane (best song they've ever done in my opinion) and I'd agree with Bonomaniac, all 14 tracks off Oasis' The Masterplan B-side album are worthy of inclusion as would be Idler's Dream one of their later B-sides.
