I can't believe this.

Fishy and I will be posting about our NY/NJ adventures in PLEBAns when we get the pictures developed, but for now I have to say:

WHAT THE CRAP.

Of course in Asbury Park we went to the Stone Pony. I don't know how it came up with the woman who worked there that we talked to, but apparently the county or whatever government it is wants to tear down the Stone Pony to make condos.

Why? Not because it does bad business. (It doesn't). Not because it's an eyesore (It's not.)

Because the proprietor ppls were told that the Stone Pony isn't considered to be a historic feature of Asbury Park.

So it should be replaced with condos.

Again: WHAT THE CRAP.

Bruce didn't get his start at the Stone Pony, but I think he performed there more than anywhere else or something like that. And it's still hopping with bands. There are ads fer Zakk Wylde, Steel Mill, and local people.

Anyway, we were shocked aboot this.

There's a website for this cause. Asbury Park has been in need of renovation for some time. The Palace and other buildings around it are deserted and maybe should be condemned because they haven't been occupied or taken care of for awhile. This is Bruce's adopted hometown though. I think it matters a lot.

Save the Friggin Stone Pony site

Mona speaks the truth...I mean Asbury Park...the part by the beach on Ocean Ave and Kinsley Ave really is falling part...of the thirty or so odd buildings on that strip, I would say only about 10 are occupied...and even the ones that are...seem to be pushing it...most of the Bruce landmarks were falling down...The roof on both the Casino and the Palace we caved in, and to be honest...the buildings would take A LOT of work to save. The whole place just makes me kind of sad...you could tell that at one time it was such a beautiful town, but now, because of politics, she is falling apart...literally...

She really is a city of ruins...the buildings are like skeletons...shells really...and it is deserted...we only saw a handful of people...but in a way that makes it cool...yah know? I am all for the redeveloping of the town, but I would hate to see it leveled and replaced with condos...the town could have such charm...I just hope they preserve that...the Eastern shore has enough resort towns...this one has the chance to be so different...

That really sucks, guys. But at least you saw the SP.

There was a site somewhere I was on where Little Steven was talking about this very same thing, and how there's no way in hell they can tear the Stone Pony down, it's a legend in a town that has very little when it comes to legend.

If I find it I'll post it.
