you heard it here first, ladies and gentlemen.

i demand all music lovers who are not familiar with broken social scene to download this song immediately and then proceed to purchase the album either online or at your favourite (indie  ) music store.

then come back and say thank you, before explaining why this song is in fact the best song to be released this year.

If you really like this song you should really pick up the 1995 release by The Flaming Lips called Clouds Taste Metallic.

Because that's what the song reminds me of. Early Flaming Lips. Even stuff pre Clouds.

It's a good song none-the-less. I really dig Broken Social Scene.

I'm glad to hear that somebody feels at least reasonably like I do, Zoomerang. It's not at the top of my list for the not-yet-over year, but it's right the fuck up there.

Two of the most notable songs which top it on my list are "Modern Girl" by Sleater-Kinney and "The Bleeding Heart Show" by The A.C. Newman Traveling Circus (aka, The New Pornographers). I've gotta toss up "Land Locked Blues" by Bright Eyes, too.

But whatever. You are right to recommend and laud this song. It kicked me in the nuts and left me for dead when I first dl'd the leak, a few months back. Truly, utterly, devastatingly spectacular. Fuck the haters, I say. I love everything about the song.

But I love "Swimmers" even more...

good stuff!

thanks for the suggestion, diamond dave. will look into it.

and shout, i always en7oy songs that kick me right square in the balls, leaving them squished, battered and bruised.

superconnected is also right up there, and of course 7/4 is near classic.

swimmers is the "anthems of a..." of the album, and hotel makes me dance sexily.

Alright, I think you've finally worn me down with all this broken social scene talk of yours.

I will give it a listen.

everyone should check these guys out - they've made 2 of the best albums of the century so far. 'ibi dreams of pavement' is an amazing song on an album FULL of amazing songs. the uninitiated should track down 'cause=time' from their first album (you forgot it in people). you won't be disappointed.

You Forgot it in People, masterpiece though it may be, was not Broken Social Scene's first album. Just wanted to clear that up. That particular honor goes to the mediocre Feel Good Lost, which was released in/around 2001...if I'm remembering correctly.

And Zoomerang--I hate to divert the thread, but while "Swimmers" may desperately want to be to this album what "Anthems" was to You Forgot..., that shit ain't never gonna happen. It's just not possible for this band or any other. Pop music reached perfection in 2002, courtesy of that aforementioned "Seventeen Year-Old Girl." Whoever she is, I'm pretty sure I love her.

Giddyup.

right you are, i realized that after i hit the post button. 'you forgot it in people' was, however, the first album with the entire collective. good stuff.

Emily Haines; speaking of whom, any love for the new Metric?

I respectfully disagree. It's not even the best song on the album. I think it reminds me too much of Pavement, which I suppose is the point. Anyway, here's a few song of the year candidates for me.

Banquet.....Bloc Party
For Real.....Okkervil River
Love's Lost Guarantee.....Rogue Wave
7/4.....Broken Social Scene
I'll Believe in Anything.....Wolf Parade
Catch My Disease.....Ben Lee
Your Little Hoodrat Friend.....Hold Steady
Road to Joy.....Bright Eyes
Your Ex-Lover is Dead.....Stars
Almost half the songs on Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers

I haven't heard ANY of it, somehow. I don't DL the shit which is probably worth buying, because it makes me feel immoral as fuck. At the same time, I'm broke as a mo'foin' joke...so it's no dice, I guess.

Unless I get some balls and just get the shit online. Whatever. I'm sure I love it, if that's any consolation. I don't have Let it Die yet, either.

I'm a sinner, I know.

so do we have anymore contributions to this thread?

ive downloaded some good music because of it

well done, bear.

Final Fantasy's "The Dream of Win and Regine" is pretty unique...I heard it on CBC radio's "National Playist" show here in Canada.

I totally forgot in my earlier posts to name the song at the VERY top of my list...I guess my memory is failing me.

"Wishbone" by Architecture in Helsinki

It's better than "Ibi," it's better than the just-mentioned Clap Your Hands... song, it's better than anything on Twin Cinema, and it's better than all of us put together. Feel the flow, kids.

absolute kick-ass lists, ladies and gentlemen. i'll definitely be downloading some of these tunes...

however!!!!

i'd like it if one of you kind-hearted souls would start a new thread with all these year end lists so that we can focus strictly on that. makes for a good read.

is that fair to ask?

Gotta say I've been enjoying the lists too. I've picked up on some good stuff. Props to barlowdog and others who have recommended Rogue Wave. I like the sound, and they're gonna be in town in a couple of nights. I think I'll have to find a way to check them out, in spite of the ridiculously late starts.
