Has any other Band besides U2, have been on the cover of Time magazine?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

A live shot of Eddie Vedder made the cover in 1993 (I think, my memory could be playing tricks on me).. I think Bob Dylan was on the cover of times magazine too.

Bruce has been twice: once in August of last year, and in October of 1975 he was on the cover of Time and Newsweek in the same week.

I don't think being on the cover of Time is as big a deal now, as it was when U2 were.

Case and point- both Ricky Martin and Nelly Furtado have graced the cover in recent years.

Since 1985-

Before 1985:
Duke Ellington - August 1956
The Band - January 1970
Cher - March 1975
Elton John - July 1975
The Beatles - Sept. 1967
Joni Mitchell - December 1974
David Bowie - July 1983

I could have sworn Frank Sinatra was on a cover too, as well as Bob Dylan. :hmm:

And Thelonius Monk, February 1964:

"The avant-garde gains mainstream recognition as Thelonious Monk makes the cover of Time magazine, which christens him the high priest of bebop."

what's interesting to note, is that while many of the more modern covers of time have included music artists, it really is a main article about a certain genre of music (ie. Pearl Jam = grunge/Seattle sound, Ricky Martin = Latin, Lauren Hill = hip hop) where U2's cover(s) have just been based on them.
