Well there's tons of them, but they often make a real profound effect on me.. here's some that spring to mind:

R.E.M. - Find the River
Soul Asylum - Runaway Track
Mercury Rev - Goddess on the Hiway
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin'
Cake - The Distance
Travis - Driftwood
Junior Boys - Last Exit
Adem - Long Drive Home
U2 - A Sort of Homecoming

CCR- Rolling On A River or Fortunate Son ( back of a jeep or huey)
Led Zeppelin- Going To California
U2- Where The Streets Have No Name
The Kinks- Waterloo Sunset

Just to add to the list

Bad Religion - It's a Long Way to the Promise Land
Grandaddy - El Caminos in the West
The Music - Take the Long Road and Walk It
Hank Williams - Lost Highway
The Explosion - Points West
Audioslave - Getaway Car
David Gray - Sail Away

Nightwish - Away
Dungeon Family - Trans DF Express
And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - How Near, How Far
Stereophonics - Stopped to Fill My Car Up

The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)

(perhaps not technically a 'great' song, but still worth a mention)

Oh man, I had a whole tape of these! I will post them later. Don't forget "Heartland"!

Hey Angela you got it! Miss you in PLEBA!

I also consider "Beautiful Day" to be a trip song.

"In God's Country" or "Streets" work too!

Oh, definitely. I remember one day my family was taking a drive somewhere, and that song came on the radio, and it just completely worked right then and there. It just sounded so good. I love it when that happens. And I agree wholeheartedly with "Streets" and "In God's Country", too (hell, just say The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum and that will pretty much say it all. Also, The Unforgettable Fire is a good CD to listen to while driving around).

Also, I must kick myself for not thinking of "The Long And Winding Road". *Kicks self* Good mention .

The song is "Ramblin' Man". I remember that song, 'cause it used to be on these mix tapes my family would play constantly whenever we were in the car back when I was a kid :).

highway 101?

for some reason, the bruisers' "chrome" makes me want to drive across a deserted highway somewhere in iowa in a red pick up truck with my dog to keep my company. epsecially strange cos i don't have a dog (or a red pick-up).

so many bruce springsteen songs make me want to go on a road trip just so i can bring them along in the tape player.

Thank you, Moonlit Angela, Ramblin Man.

And thank you, I Was Bored I meant Highway 101

those are both really good songs.

I always consider the following songs by The Church and/or Steve Kilbey to be songs at least partially about travel or journeys:

Myrrh
Hotel Womb
Destination (actually the whole Starfish album seem to be a bit of a Church-esque travelogue)
Terra Nova Cain
Invisible
Keeper (solo SK)
Over (solo SK)

and of course these next two songs aren't so much about travelling as tripping, but they take you on one hell of a ride! ;)

Anaesthesia
Nightfriends

Oh, and John Kilbey's "Travelling Karma" is a fun little song about public transit (in Bondi).

The first song that comes to mind is Streets.

But I also have to say the beautiful Heartland.

As far as a non-U2 song goes, Depeche Mode's interpretation of Route 66 gets me dancing every time! :dancing:
