My money is on Icky Thump.

The Grammys aren't very worthwhile to me -- so many of their choices make me want to throw up. I get so much more value out of reading the best of lists that folks here come up with. Y'all have much better taste. <wink>

I know I am not cool enough to understand the Grammy's, but this list, if we can call it that, is frightful.

A few honest winners amid a pack of losers, by and large, but some things just don't make any sense at all.

Like, how do you decide that Sky Blue Sky is rock while Icky Thump is alternative. I mean, come on.

Then, as much as I love Maynard and the fabulous song chosen, how does a release from May 06 even contend?

I even think it's cheating to consider all those holiday releases from 06, but I know that is part of the U2 always wins a Grammy clause in the constitution referred to by another poster.

Please, pretty please, go vote for the real best albums of the year in the only thread that matters, the sticky that your humble editors and mods have created for you at the top of this forum.

Yes, Feist is a new artist. This is her second solo album. She's been in a band since the beginning of the decade, but people who saw the iTunes commercial didn't know who she was so she must be new!

It's also possibly the deadliest category to win in. I've been predicting that the talented but currently overexposed Feist would sadly become the next Norah Jones. A best new artist grammy would seal the deal.

Two Prog artists got nominations this year!

Rush for best rock instrumental and Porcupine Tree for best surround sound album. It isn't much, but at least its something! They are 2 of my favorite groups of all time so congrats to them!

mark my words... i will forever boycott the grammys if that happens.

You mean you didn't boycott after "My Humps" won a grammy last year?

I'm still not over that one  .

I really liked "Back to Black" and thought it was a great album, but who knows what condition she'll be in if she even attends. I hope she does attend, I love a good trainwreck :corn:

Meanwhile I think three people have picked up the Foos new release and it's nominated. Just another reason why the Grammys don't make any sense.

So a record is only worthwhile to be nominated when it has sold a lot of records?
I haven't heard the Foo Fighters record, so I can't comment on its quality, but the above statement is a bit confusing to me. Often we accuse the Grammys of only nominating well-selling records. And apparently, when they do pick a record that hasn't sold that well, we accuse them of nominating poor-selling records.

Out of that list, I sadly WOULD vote for Hey There Delilah.

Windows In The Skies is a good song. Better than the other ones nominated. It deserves to win.
Now, Instant Karma on the other hand... :tsk:

I'm going have to go with Falling Slowly over the Vedder song in that one.

Same here. Falling Slowly was the new song that moved me the most this past year.
(although I have to say I prefer the version as done by The Frames)

Seriously? Hey There Delilah is absolute crap. WITS may not be genius, but it's a good song.

Agree to disagree.

No.

And you are wrong!

I'm so glad to see Eddie Vedder nominated. That entire soundtrack is so amazing! I'm not sure how they picked that song over a few others that are, imo, brilliant. But i will root for Eddie all the way!

Amy Winehouse will probably win several of her categories. It's just too bad she might not even be there to accept. She is in such bad shape these days, I would be surprised if she could clean herself up in time to make a respectable appearance.

Best Long Form Music Video
(For video album packages consisting of more than one song or track. Award to the Artist and to the Video Director/Producer of at least 51% of the total playing time.)

* Trapped In The Closet Chapters 13-22
R. Kelly
R. Kelly, Victor Mignatti & Jim Swaffield, video directors; Ann Carli, video
producer
[Jive/Zomba]

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
