ha, cool. forgot to mention i renamed some genres to better suit my view of them ie Sinatra is swing not 'easy listening' Johnny Cash is "country/rockabilly" rather than simply 'country'

itunes has some interesting features for educating yourself about music... ie the year it was created, the composers, etc.... for the music of previous generations it helps to see how things progressed... i just recently realized how much Johnny Cash and Duke Ellington's careers overlapped... (chronologically)

Yeah, all those classifications are just from iTunes. The only 'Easy Listening' I have is Billy Eckstine. The Sinatra wasn't actually classified, so I guess it was put on offline and in a hurry.

Since a lot of them are just downloads, a fair share just have the years as the genres, which is no good. So all the "1900-1960", "1935" and "popular music 1925-1955" was ignored.

with some compilation CDs i've uploaded i've gone and looked up the original year and album of release for the individual tracks. i'm probably too interested in that sort of thing.
