not mp3s per se.. but full songs

www.newmusiccanada.com -> tons of up and coming canadian bands from all over the whole country.

http://cbcradio3.com -> random tracks by various people, including every week 4 or 5 live songs by a featured indie band. (this week they have the top 20 canadian songs of the year)

http://www.justconcerts.com/ -> Various live concerts and studio sessions by a whole range of awesome bands. Same source material as lots of the stuff on cbcradio 3, except complete and poorer quality (realplayer)

anyway, 3 awesome sources of new music, all sponsored by the canadian broadcasting corporation. Go public broadcasting! :)

Other than that I think someone mentioned The Organ once, are they any good?

I like The Organ. It's more 80's throwback stuff but I think they're pretty good. They have those little 30-seconds clips on Amazon, but I haven't seen any mp3's anywhere.

I went to this site but the DL is no longer available so I contacted the guy and set up a trade (of sorts, I had nothing that he wanted so he just sent me a copy) which is great because he sent me a CD rather than an MP3. It really is very good. Highly recommended for any Floyd fans.
Thanks for the link.

Can't post links since I don't post enough, but I will try and work around it...

For the Evanescence Fan, try:
w w w . bringmetolife.com

For lots of live concerts, when you can get into the site:
w w w . relivetheconcert.com

Lots of independent and unsigned (maybe?) artists:
w w w . audiostreet.net

Finally, for a ton of links to other music sites:
laurasmidiheaven.com/links/links-musicARCHIVE-sept9.shtml

Those lovely fellas at Popmatters have decided on an mp3 section:

http://www.popmatters.com/music/downloads/index.shtml

Not so much now, but some good stuff up.

hmm. i never really checked out that site. i guess i should have before ranting about their shit dropkick murphys review (i don't remember the review now, i'm pretty sure i wasn't ripping into it for being negative but rather for being completly uninformed). it makes perfect sense that they probably wouldn't have known what they were talking about, as DKM seems to fall outside of what they're used to dealing with.

that being said, yeah that's some good stuff.
