So am I. In fact, I've been making a list of my all-time favorite videos, and I've got quite a few. Some of my personal favorites include:

"The Sweetest Thing" & "Where The Streets Have No Name"-U2
"Hourglass"-Squeeze
"Mary Jane's Last Dance" & "Don't Come Around Here No More"-Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
"Jeremy"-Pearl Jam
"One Step Ahead"-Split Enz (just love the whole look of this one)
"Land Of Confusion"-Genesis (brings back funny childhood memories)
"Runaway Train"-Soul Asylum
"Everybody Hurts"-R.E.M.
"Smalltown Boy"-Bronski Beat
"Weapon Of Choice"-Fatboy Slim
"Once In A Lifetime" & "Nothing But Flowers"-Talking Heads
"Wilbury Twist"-Traveling Wilburys
"Closer"-Nine Inch Nails
"One"-Metallica
"Thriller"-Michael Jackson (say what you will about his music and him and everything, but I gotta admit, this was a neat video)

Angela

This will take me a while to think of, but I'll put down a few on my head now:

U2 - 'Lemon'
U2 - 'Electrical Storm'
UNKLE - 'Rabbit In Your Headlights'
Coldplay - 'Trouble'
Radiohead - 'Street Spirit'
Hope of the States - 'Black Dollar Bills'
Beta Band - 'Assessment'
Talking Heads - 'Once In a Lifetime'
Dresden Dolls - 'Coin Operated Boy' and/or 'Girl Anachronism'
Outkast - too hard to choose
Michael Jackson - 'Thriller'
Dream Evil - 'The Book of Heavy Metal'

korn - freak on a leash

if i were to watch it now, i'd have to turn the sound off, but as i remember it was a pretty cool video.

i thought that backwards coldplay one was pretty cool.

Penny Lane-Beatles
Strawberry Fields-Beatles

These were both shown on Ed Sulivan. I don't know if they are the best videos. But they certainly were important because they were the first. The Beatles were way ahead of their time.

even earlier were promo videos they did for "rain" and i think "paperback writer" (or "day tripper" or one of those other revolver-era singles). i think this was the case anyway....it's been a while since i've dug out my beatles anthology tapes and watched them.

Agree with both of these (heh, listening to Coldplay right now, actually-not the song that went with the video you mentioned, but...).

which song was that? i really can't remember, i only saw it once.

:der:

seeing as i'd call that my favorite coldplay song (with close competition only coming from "amsterdam" intro), i really should have known that.

now that would definetly be on my list for your thread about cool music in songs.

This isn't official but I always thought the first music video was Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, it was a single shot a man with cue cards that went along with the song.

sometimes a music video can ruin a song for me i.e. interpol’s ‘evil’, but when done right, it makes me love the song that much more

u2 has never been a great music video artist imo (I’d love to see them work with a director like jonathan glazer or chris cunningham), but they have had some pretty cool ones…
some u2 favs are: even better than the real thing (first time I saw this, I thought it was the coolest thing ever)
mysterious ways
one (brown version)
stay

some of my fav music videos:
the clash – radio clash
air – kelly watch the stars, sexy boy
breeders – cannonball, saints
unkle – rabbit in your headlights
bjork – human behavior (her first, and one of her best), hidden place
nine inch nails – down in it
pulp – this is hardcore
supergrass – late in the day
orbital – style
pavement – rattled by the rush, shady lane
depeche mode – enjoy the silence
rufus wainwright – april fools
sebadoh – ocean
beck – devil’s haircut
the doves – there goes the fear
jon spencer blues explosion – 2 kindsa love
blur – beetlebum
gus gus – believe
lo fidelity allstars – battleflag
pj Harvey – down by the water

in other words, if I could pick which videos would be playing on mtv’s old show ‘120 minutes’, those would be the ones id choose
I do some videotape trading, so I get to see a fair share of videos heh

Both very, very strange, freaky videos, but yet both very, very cool ones, too .

Speaking of strange videos...I also like the one for Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun", even though the demented grins the people make in the video freak me out somewhat.

Ooh, yeah, that's a good one, too.

I've only seen a very small portion of "This Fire", but I do like the "Take Me Out" one . And on similar musical terrain, I rather like the video for the Killers' "Mr. Brightside".

LOL, well, hey, if we're going down that path, then my vote for favorite video based on looks would be "Desire" :D.

Agree wholeheartedly with this as well (still haven't seen the "Sometimes..." video, yet, though).

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire & Stay (Faraway so Close)

Duran Duran - Ordinary World

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer & Games Without Frontiers

I am a strong supporter that The Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" is the greatest music video ever created. Great pick!

. Peter Gabriel makes some really funky, good videos :).

The Talking Heads one, I get a kick out of it, 'cause, like I've said before, David Byrne looks like he's having a seizure in it. Although I found out recently that Toni Basil actually did the choreography for that one, so she's behind his bizarre dance.

"Burning Down The House" is another good video by them.
