Engineers debut self-titled album was released today in North America. I believe it's been out for a little while in Europe now, so hopefully there will be some fans/people who have heard Engineers before. Anyways.....

This album is great.

Engineers' music is hard for me to describe. The only real genre/distinction I can give it is 'dream pop', but they seem like more than that. I originally looked into these guys because they were described as a "shoegazer" band, and I'm insanely into that right now. They do have moments of shoegaze in their music, but they also seem to have moments of post rock and brit pop in there (in other words, I couldnt have asked for more). Imagine a cross between Slowdive, Elbow, Sigur Ros, The Beta Band, Cocteau Twins, Spiritualized, and Explosions in the Sky. This music is atmospheric, spacey, hypnotic, chill, and beautiful.

Not exactly for everyone, but I'm sure this would be right up many of your proverbial alleys. Check them out if any of this remotely sounds interesting to you

Check out the song 'Come In Out of the Rain' and 2 music videos here (you can also hear their other 2 singles here, but for some unfortunate reason they are not the studio versions and are just not as good as the final versions):

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, my mind went... 'Ooh, I'm an Engineer! What ever could this thread be about???'

Shoegazer.

More like...

Actually this sounds interesting. Cocteau Twins, Explosions in the Sky... you've sold me. Everyone listen now.

Plus vite.

I hear a taste of Pet Sounds and a slight linger of a more folk-induced ( ).

Interesting stuff.

i've been meaning to check them out since i found out they were opening for interpol.

thanks for the links, mofo.

Spread the love.

Seriously everyone, it's a solid album. Chiggity-check it out.

i saw the Engineers open for The National at the Mercury Lounge in NYC this past Friday....they were very good, if a bit limited in the songwriting dept. they are more about mood and atmosphere i think.

Depends on what you mean by "songwriting". I suppose anyone who makes any kind of concept/themed album/music (I'm talking themed in sound, not ideas) would be "limited" in some way, but I dont find that to necessarily be a problem. But yes, that kind of music is very much about mood and atmosphere, which is probably why I like it.

I heard them on a plane trip to the UK a few weeks ago. They had the bloc party album and this one. I really loved it. Definitely need to get it. :D I'll check out those links now though - thanks!

It's not bad.
But it's dull and non-threatening

Nothing really interesting here

maybe future listens will unearth new dynamics

Saw Engineers open for Bloc Party and they were fantastic. I intend to give their album a thorough listen.

listen to Slowdive or even My Bloody Valentine for top notch shoegazing

I think part of the problem with the Engineers is the Melodies
it's kinda like Air but with nothing to hook you and draw you in.
That being said I think it would be perfect for listening to as you drift off to sleep

I downloaded a few songs and... sorry mofo, i'm not impressed

No biggie. As I stated in my first post, they arent the kind of band that everyone will like.

I sure am liking them though

i just listened to it and, i'm not sure if it's because i was up late last night or if it was the music, but i'm feeling sleepy now.

it's chill out music, i guess. kinda dreamy. which isn't bad if you're in the mood for it.

i have to say, one in se7en and forgiveness are great tracks.

I'm pretty sure that's the effect they were going for, after all it is 'dream pop'. I can totally see why some wouldnt like that aesthetic though. Definitely music to "chill" to.

Yes, those are good tracks. One in Seven is a fav. right now, it has a definite post-rock feel to it.
