In 2000, following a media uproar prompted by the visit of presidential candidate George W. Bush to the University, Bob Jones III abruptly dropped the interracial dating rule,

WTF! How can such a school with such rules exist until 2000 :| this makes no fucking sense.

"Loyalty to Christ results in separated living. Dishonesty, lewdness, sensual behavior, adultery, homosexuality, sexual perversion of any kind, pornography, illegal use of drugs, and drunkenness—all are clearly condemned by God's word and prohibited here." Grounds for immediate dismissal include stealing, immorality (including sexual relations between unmarried students), possession of hard-core pornography, use of alcohol or drugs, and participating in a public demonstration for a cause the University opposes.[

:lmao: that basically means not a single Dutch student would survive on there for more than a week!

 You know, even if I totally agreed with their theology, I truly cannot possibly imagine living such a minutely controlled life. Sure, I lead a pretty boring life, but I simply cannot tolerate somebody looking over my shoulder with some pedantic list of rules.

Sign me up for this too. Just make sure the cannon's pointed at Wellington for me.

I think the things you guys really don't understand is that this is just something people believe. I can't understand why you guys can't believe the way I do, but I don't condemn you for it. Though, obviously people that go to this school would, and that is when things get a little out of hand. There are things in the Bible that speak against this kind of behavior. Not to mention the fact that when it comes to Old Testament Vs. New Testament laws, I still can't figure out why people can't get it through their heads that after Jesus, the Old Testament laws went out the window :banghead:. But anyways, she went there decades ago, and I think she really just loved being in a religious community. I have to say that even if TCU is pretty much Christian in name only, I did enjoy the fact that the other day I actually was able to get into a debate with a Catholic kid in class about me being Protestant, without non-religious people breaking in and calling us both idiots.

If I can find more details on this cannon thing, I'll get them to you. And now I'm off to Russian History, to find out about more Zany things they were up to.

Freshman and sophomore residence hall students must sign out before leaving campus; students with junior and senior privileges may leave without signing out between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Curfew is at 10:25 p.m., and residence hall students must be in their own rooms and quiet at 11 p.m. Lights must be out by midnight.[125]
Each student is provided with a filtered e-mail account. Using unfiltered Internet access via computer, mobile phone, or satellite phone is prohibited for residence hall students. The university provides content-filtered Internet access for student use that blocks pornography, "lurid violence," racial hate, and other "objectionable content."
DVD/VCRs are not allowed in residence halls; DVD players on computers cannot be used for watching films. Televisions may be used only as monitors to play video games.
Residence hall students are forbidden to go to movie theaters or, when visiting local homes, to watch any films with a rating higher than a G rating. Residence hall students are not permitted to play, use, or own video games that are rated T, M, Ao, or E10 or that include profanity, sensual or suggestive dress, rock music, graphic violence, or demonic themes.
Students may not listen to country, jazz, New Age, rock, or contemporary Christian music.[126]
Residence hall students are permitted to work off-campus until 10:25 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends, and students may not serve alcohol nor solicit door-to-door without a retail license or permission from the dean of students. [127]

wow. Just wow.

:| now they even control your life outside of campus and school.

I like how it specifies hard-core pornography.

Does that mean soft-core porn is okay?

Also, I love that there's a ban on contemporary Christian music there.

Also, students aren't allowed to go to movie theaters or watch innapropriate movies, even when off campus.

Big Brother may not have fully taken over America yet, but he's alive and well at that school.

That school is a tad overly strict guys...I'd die in a place like that

I didn't mind the fact that my Secondary School was religious but that was because all in all it was laid back excluding a "religion" class once a week

yea, apparently soft core porn is okay. Axver would fit in then

Big Brother Jesus is watching you!
Hey GG2.

How are ya?

 I'm good, we're reading this Bob Jones University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and being amused.

Now, you didn't know me when I was 16-17. And if you had, you wouldn't recognise me now. That was my brief religious phase, and like everything I do, I got seriously into it - hence my present knowledge of theology (and continued interest in). So I'm quite familiar with both sides of the fence ... it's funny, when I was on the religious side, I could totally see why people would be on the non-religious side, but now that I've swapped sides, I cannot even begin to understand why I once was on the religious side. But this isn't my point. My point is that even when I was religious, and perhaps even MORESO when I was religious, I found these people absolutely incomprehensible. If it says anything, I read Fundies Say The Darndest Things a hell of a lot more when I was religious than now that I'm a godless heathen.

Ah, Russian history. I love it. So much bloody madness! And I don't just mean 'bloody' as a euphemism.

I had a religious primary school, we had to pray before eating and had some religious themede lessons  but they let you be free in whatever you wanted to think and believe..

Dammit GG, quit pointing things out moments before I do

You know, personally there's a difference between morality and good Christian belief, and going off the diving board. They've taken it out of hand.

I went to a sort of strict church, but girls were still allowed to wear tight jeans and sleeveless tops, and guys were still allowed to have sideburns.

You can still believe and serve God without turning into a bland, robotic Christian clone.

That university seems more like an excuse for overbearing fundamentalist parents to continue controlling their children, when they should be at an age to gain some independence.

Men's hair must be traditionally styled with a conservative cut. Hair must not be colored, highlighted, shaved, shelved, tangled or spiked. Sideburns may not reach past the lower opening of the ear. No facial hair is permitted; students must be clean shaven. (Some exceptions are made for older students.)[129]
Men may not wear earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. Tattoos and body piercings are forbidden.
Socks are required at all times.

wow.

Sorry, I can't help it!

And I agree with everything you just said! they're just wayy too much into controlling their kids. I pity those kids. You need freedom at that age to develop your personality properly! This way they won't have a personality, they'll just be clones!

I bet that's a good science degree...
