Does Hotmail suck?

After having been a Hotmail user for 5 years (before it was even owned by MSN), I decided today that I was fed up with it. I guess it's still okay for people who aren't heavy e-mail users, but if you use e-mail on an even semi-regular basis (and if you're an electronic pack rat like me), you need something else.

I picked up on www.fastmail.fm and it seems pretty cool--you can retrieve e-mail from a few different addresses (I'm retrieving from *four* old e-mail addresses and it hasn't stopped me yet), and for a one-time fee (instead of a subscription) you get something like 16MB of storage (more if you pay more and subscribe). It's a little weird to get the hang of, but overall I like it and it has a lot of domain names to choose from. Even their most basic (and free) service seems better than Hotmail.

Has anyone come up with any really good free or cheap web-based e-mail options now that Hotmail has gone to shite? If so, what are they?

i had a hotmail account a long time ago, but i never used it. i'm just sick of it cuz i'm sick of hotmail users sending me all those goddamn "uh oh!!! forward this or msn will start charging!! however one freaking e-mail will change our minds!" forwards. i got the same stuff with aim, icq, etc. over the years, and with the addition of hotmail too it was like...enough freaking forwards already.

I'm getting really tired of Hotmail and their crap. When I first opened an account about three years ago, I loved it...I don't love it anymore. Primarily the main reason why I use both Hotmail and Yahoo is because they are free.

I had Hotmail for about a year and a half, but soon got sick of it. I recommend Yahoo! Mail as an alternative. It loads pages faster and it isn't run by the devil himself.

It was great until Microsoft took it over. It's been on a downhill slide ever since. I only use my hotmail account as a backup in case I'm away from home and need to email someone.

There IS a way to get rid of spam entirely - you can go to filters (in options, I think) and choose exclusive - that way only email from people on your list will go through, and the rest will go to junk mail.

Yes hotmail does suck. You get less storage space than before and you get more junk email's than before (which i think is just a ploy to fill up you hotmail account to try to get you to buy extra storage space).

The only reason I haven't switched yet, is cuz most of the people I send email to or get email from have my hotmail address, and it's such a pain to change all of that. For other email, or larger files, I use my Earthlink account which came with my service provider.

BTW, if you haven't read it yet, you guys should read deathbear's poem about MSN in Dream Out Loud. It's pretty funny.

I hate hotmail, I really only got it so I could use MSN messanger, which also sorta sucks. I get so much crap in my bulk mail, like saying "this isnt a virus" and it probably is. And then its so stupid and puts the mail I DO need into bulk. Grrrrrrr.

Yeah, Hotmail sucks and I'm about to move my email over to Yahoo. Its just gonna have to happen.

Also, be on the lookout. There are rumors that Hotmail may start deleting email older than two weeks. That will suck. Argh! I hate changing it!

BTW, if you have Internet Explorer, you can save messages from hotmail (or other websites).

If you go to file, to save as, you can save the page as a single archive so it's one file. I've done that with some of my messages that I wanted to keep when my account size got large, or to make sure that I had a copy if they got deleted. It's a little easier than copying and pasting the text into Word.

I've even done it with interference posts that I thought were funny that I wanted to save a copy of.

I have had it. they suck and i plan to use something else for web based mail.

I get way too many porn, breast enlargement, etc spam.....my favorite is the one i get everyonce in a while that says: kristina! add 2 inches to your penis! or something like that.
