We now arrive in the Valpara�so municipality of Chile - or more to the point, we arrive 870km off the Chilean coast in the Pacific Ocean, on the Desventuradas Islands. The name means "Unfortunate Islands" in Spanish. They are well named too! There are two main islands in the group, plus an islet and a bunch of rocks and stacks poking out of the waves, and their terrain is so harsh and rugged that they have no permanent human habitation - though one of the main islands does have its own airstrip and hosts a detachment of the Chilean Navy, perhaps to keep those pesky British away. Great scientific interest surrounds the largely unknown flora and fauna of the islands, which are of volcanic origin. Their existence has been known since the 1500s, but clearly not a whole lot of research has been undertaken since then. Perhaps due to a lack of freshwater. Perhaps due to inaccessibility. Perhaps due to those pesky British.

Completed bibliography; and a start on the essay, I'm give it a good push tomorrow, when my mind has thoughts other then it's midnight

Ha, midnight is Axver primetime. I'm kind of annoyed actually that I seem to get my best work done around midnight to 3am. I'd like more sleep!

Maybe I should try to get up early and do my work in the mornings like I used to ...

Honestly if I was writing a story, the middle of the night is my most creative time weirdly

The reason I turned into a night owl is creative writing, actually. Back in January this year, I began staying up to 1-2am writing fiction and that's where it all began before the Superthread madness kicked in. Now it's become a habit.

But I write just as well in the early morning, like before about 9am. It's a matter of whether I want to crash into bed after 3am or drag myself up around 6am.

And hurrah, only a fifth of my essay to go now. Just got some decent stuff down.

I remember when i realised I couldn't write anything none character driven; it was in school when I wrote short stories and one was a military were they just talked; and the other had a plot but then i realise I was only one page under my limit and nothing had happened yet so my ending was rushed
