I saw Colin Hay's show in Towson Maryland last night. Amazing performance! Definitely one of the best kept secrets around. Although the theater could hold up to 700 people, there was only about 200 people there. Colin Hay played a lot of his solo work but also dipped heavily into his albums with Men At Work playing the following songs:

I always thought the secret ingredient to Men At Work was the bass playing. Their bass playing really created an almost islandic type of vibe in most of those songs you mentioned. It was a different and unique take on the Australian experience.

So who plays bass on this tour? Are these songs done true to the originals or is there some reinterpretation going on, primarily from a rhythym point of view? Hell, I'm not even sure who played bass for Men At Work. If you could answer that for me too, I'd be obliged.

I can't remember the name of the current bass player. Colin toured last year by himself and his wife. It was a great acustic show with his wife singing back up vocals. For this new tour, Colin has a new band backing him up, Guitar, Bass, drums, and Keyboards as well as his wife on back up vocals and himself with lead vocals and guitar.

The songs, for the most part, stay true to the originals with the band backing him. When he is by himself, the songs are obviously reinterpreted for a solo accustic show.

John Rees was the bass player for Men At Work back in the early 1980s. He left the band after the first two albums. Men At Work came out with their third and final album in 1985.

As far as that islandic type vibe you refered to that was really present last night on "Down By The Sea". They did a nice long version of that song!

Weird...our family was just talking about his touring, 'cause we saw a promo for it on VH1 Classic a few minutes ago.

Anywho, glad you had a good time-sounds like it was a pretty fun show . I like that whole island type of sound, too, there's just something about it...

Shame he isn't coming anywhere near me .

Interesting. I've recently dusted off the old Business as Usual vinyl, and it's been a pleasant revival of sorts. I really loved them back in fourth grade, and it's been a good dose of nostalgia. But I've come to appreciate some songs that I couldn't back then. I Can See It In Your Eyes is a beautifully sad song with some tasteful guitar. Men at Work is definitely underrated.

I totally agree. When I was younger I was really only into the singles, but now I appreciate all the album tracks.

At the show Colin asked the crowd if they wanted to hear more new songs or some old songs. He said "ok, I think you want to hear some old songs, I can see it in your eyes".

Of course, you know what he played next, in hindsight a little cheasy, but it was cool and it was a great live version of the song.

The album Cargo is actually a little better than "Business As Usual" in my opinion.
