I just noticed that Coldplay will have a concert in Chicago tommorrow night May 6th. Since U2 will be playing there the day after would it be fair to assume that U2 will be at the concert and vice versa?

It would be cool to see if either band acknowledges the other's presence.

As much as Chris wants it Coldplay will NEVER be as "big" as U2!!!
However they do have some really gorgeous songs. Hopefully they'll be at each others concerts.

hahaha

watch Chris Martin show up to the U2 show with a "HOW TO BE U2" notebook and furiously start writing away notes during the show

:D

Coldplay? what the fuck is so much interesting on coldplay? its just another overrated band on earth. i can't find anything special in their music. in other words BORING

why do we have to understand coldplay as a threat to u2? they are a great band, and one of the reasons for that is that one of their references is u2. as a long time u2 fan i'm proud that the best new band from the last 10 years is inspired by them.
there are enough room for both bands and they know that. it's good that they are friends and admire each other's music.

Some friends are going to Nine Inch Nails this weekend in Chicago--must not be where Coldplay or U2 are playing.
I enjoy Coldplay--but they will never be U2 (Chris Martin-is that his name--compared in looks to Bono--there's a big difference-we like our rock stars to be gorgeous.)

You know, a lot of you guys stun me with your inability to read an original post and respond to it. Where in the original post was it asked if Coldplay would ever be as big as U2? Where in the original post was it asked what your opinion of Coldplay is? Where? NOWHERE. The question asked was, since Coldplay's show and U2's show are a day apart, is it possible they would be at each other's shows? I think it's possible, it could very well happen.

Now, can we please start actually responding to the thread topic and stop turning it into a Coldplay-bashing thread? Hmm?

I can't believe I have to quote myself!!

STOP IT!! JUST ANSWER THE ORIGINAL FRIGGIN' QUESTION!!

I don't mean to sound like a prick but my god it feels like some of you aren't even reading the original post and are just seeing U2 and Coldplay in the same title and automatically assuming the thread is about Coldplay being as big as U2! STOP IT!!

Yeah, it's pretty sad that this instantly turned into a "OMG COLDPLAY SUX" thread. U2 fans are so insecure.

i suppose its possible - chris martin is a big fan of the band so he might want to be there.
u2, or bono at least, have been known to show up at random gigs all over the place and as far as i know are fans of clodplay too so maybe.
that in mind - did anyone notice that the coldplay london gig and the 3rd croke park gig are on the same day - i've already got my coldplay ticket and as tempting as another u2 gig is (i'm already going to friday night croke park) i'm gonna have to stick with what i got.
no chance of u2 showing up at that coldplay concert then

I don't understand this either. Anyone who knows anything about both of these artist know they respect each other.
U2 is the mentor and Coldplay is the student/graduate. With that said, I find a remarkable difference between these 2 groups.
I have a feeling the only reason so many think they sound so much alike is because they (Coldplay) have said in that they are influenced by them(U2). And U2 have said they like their music.
There is no problem here.

No idea about the original question....but after hearing Talk and Speed Of Sound Coldplay seem to be doing the U2 kinda thing as far as songwriting and production goes. I think they'll peak with this album though and then slowly go downhill.

They wont be at the U2 show. They tried to get tickets through the fan club but got screwed out of good seats!

Coldplay made 2 albums , well 3 ok. So they're now in the stage whe4n u2 did war!
They will never be as big as u2!
Maybe after 11 studio albums, an experimental decennium, and lots of world tours, different styles in music, just like u2!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Coldplay did show up.

And, that's just fine with me -- Coldplay is really the only new band that I've heard in the last five years that has the power to move me with their music.

With all the Britney Spears and Hillary Duffs out there, let's embrace good music and real talent, and not worry about any rivalries!

Greatest post EVER!!!!! (well, at least in this thread)

U2 fanatics = the most insecure and oblivious people on Earth

Is it possible one band could show up at the others' concert? Definitely. Will it happen? Who knows.
