Maybe I should take this opportunity to do some readings for my tute tomorrow. Or, you know, maybe I could just procrastinate by watching stuff on YouTube and such.

Yeah, he's not really what I'd consider to be your style, but that one piece I thought you might enjoy, if only for the sheer mind-boggling mad guitar skillz. That was just him solo, by the way.
He did that one when I saw him live a while back... I don't think I've ever seen one guy with a guitar fill a room with music like that.

Oh dear, now I'm having a nerdy moment. I looked up the 9 October 1987 set to copy it and show why I don't think it's all that, but now here I am, just clicking through third leg JT sets, comparing them and such. There's this really dull run of static sets from late September to late October 1987, though I wonder if it's to cater for the fact Bono had his arm in a sling due to that dislocated shoulder, as it's bookended by much more variable sets.

I love it when I discover random setlist stuff that I hadn't noticed before.

1. The 1987-11-28, Murfreesboro show is fairly well-known for the fact that U2 soundchecked Red Hill Mining Town. What I hadn't noticed until now is that U2 replaced October with ONE TREE HILL! The typical run at the end of the main set of Bad/October/NYD/Pride is replaced by Bad/OTH/NYD/Pride.

2. WOWY missed just two JT Tour shows. The first was the opening gig, 1987-04-02, as it did not debut live until the second gig on 1987-04-04. The other show is late on the third leg, 1987-11-26, Baton Rouge. U2 often did an encore of Bullet/RTSS/WOWY/40. What do they do in Baton Rouge instead of WOWY? People Get Ready! WTF?

And I don't think I've actually listened to UF (album or song) for AGES. I've probably been through all the others since I had UF in the car last, except ATYCLB. Must be at least a year, maybe two...
(The last time I remember listening to it all was around the time a friend/ex-co-worker died... and to my shame I can't remember if that was one year ago or two. )

If memory serves correctly, it is a pretty good Exit. The run of UF/Exit/IGC is what makes the show worth it. Otherwise ... meh.

Yeah, I'm not so sure. Basically, here's how the third leg went (indulge me here; I'm procrastinating):

10/09-18/09: set varies a good bit. This could be put down to just the usual fluctuations that often take place at the start of a new leg, especially any new leg where new material is introduced (e.g. One Tree Hill, Helter Skelter, and an unsuccessful attempt to use Bullet as an opener).
20/09: Bono dislocates his shoulder.
Week after 20/09: Set still varies a little.
But then from late September through to 28/10 it barely changes. Almost every show for the month of October is identical.
20/10: First show without the sling.
28, 29, 30/10: U2 play a three night stand in Chicago and rediscover setlist diversity.
30/10 to 20/12: Varied sets.



And I think you really need to play UF. It really is the only U2 album I've listened to with any regularity over the last year or so. I've gotten back into some other stuff recently, though.

And a couple of days ago my mother told me that a mole she got removed turned out to be melanoma, so she's going to a specialist to get more cut out. There's no particular reason to panic, but that combined with a bunch of other things has me in something of a delicate state at the moment. I mean, I cried half the way to work today, listening to Pop, of all things.

So maybe I'll leave UF alone for a bit longer, or else listen to it when I'm not driving down a freeway.

All the best for your mother. If it counts for anything, my aunt has had three melanoma lumps cut out and she's absolutely fine. Well, except for the part where she hasn't learnt her lesson about putting on sunblock!

But yeah, I know what you mean. I'll probably forever associate The Cure's Untitled with my Grandpa's death. For whatever reason, that's the one song I latched onto when he died. The lyrics don't even suit! But just the general sound of the song seemed appropriate. I do try to avoid associating songs with negative events though, so that I don't have difficulty listening to them once the moment passes. Doesn't always work, but I try.

Incidentally, I can totally see the UF death theme. Only Promenade poses a problem, really. And I didn't know anything in IAMJ actually went unignored!
