Just seen The Hitchhikers' guide to the galaxy! Overall it's really good, but it seems a little strange that you don't see Zaphod with his two heads at the same time! Lovely graphics, tho&Stephen Frys' narration is spot-on!!

Douglas Adams was a genius! God bless 'im!

I'm always looking for things to add to my netflix list, glad I came across this thread...
I recently saw 24 Hr. Party People and it was pretty good. I think they could/should have put more about Ian Curtis in it, though. The movie assumes you know his history and if you're like me and don't know much about the Manchester music scene during the '80s the whole suicide thing is weird. I hear they're making a bio-pic about Curtis. This movie has me interested in seeing it.

I also agree with Hello Angel about Velvet Goldmine. I need to see that one again.

Cape Fear (remake)

im sorry but i cant understand some of the negativity surrounding the remake. I can't think of too many other films that can have someone so riveted throughout the film

Vera Drake

so much warmth and diversion within that small family
i meant diversity..............

i dunno what i meant..its about this woman who goes from house to house giving abortions...she just does it out of the goodness of her heart to " help girls out"- she says...

ya see so many sides of the issue as it was in the 1940's England

there's also a cute english bloke Daniel Mays hes like a warped vince vaughn

Once Upon a Time in the West

Best movie ever...

Thank you.
I was scrolling through this thread hoping someone would mention it.

As with some of the reviews of Pulp Fiction, this movie is all about the dialogue. Except, here it is the absence of the spoken word. The dialogue here is in the eye-contact between the actors.
And Sergio Leone's extreme close-up of Charles Bronson's eyes at the end is pure brilliance.

I got one...Glengarry, Glenross.

Classic!

Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey......trust me, this movie kicks ass!

Capturing The Friedmans

Creepy but riveting film.

Klute
Croupier
the Krzysztof Kieslowski trilogy Blue, White & Red

Ordinary Decent Criminal. Kevin Spacey is just brilliant. If it doesn't make you laugh, there's something wrong with you.
Benny & Joon. A truly delightful and lovely movie, and again should make you laugh.
Where The Heart Is. Book is always better, but this was lovely.

I found To Kill A Mockingbird for $10 in my local supermarket. I'd only read the book, but loved it, so I risked buying it, and it paid off. Everyone should see this.

Yep, I concur with Diamond's choice of the Professional - Jean Reno is fantastic!

Last night I saw CRASH - Wow, wow, wow! I cried and laughed in equal amounts - a brilliant movie...by a Canuck of course :sexywink:

Great film, all the way. I enjoy Kassovitz.

Le Bonheur (Agnes Varda)
Shopping For Fangs (Quentin Lee and Jusin Lin...I think)
A Man Escaped (Bresson)
Fitzcarraldo (Herzog)
Throne of Blood (Kurosawa)

Those're some good starting points to get into some amazing directors (with the exception of Lee and Lin, who I think are pretty irrelevant beyond this film) and some of the greatest films of all time.
