Best Tracks of 06?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
1. Pearl Jam - Gone

Probably my favorite song of the year so far! The lyrics are really well suited for the current times too. That said, it might become dated someday when everything becomes alright, gas prices plummet, Iraq is war free and everyone is happy in the world

The rest, in no particular order...

2. Pearl Jam - Come Back / Inside Job (hard to decide :crack: )
3. RHCP - Wet Sand
4. RHCP - Especially In Michigan
5. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
6. Snow Patrol w/ Martha Wainwright - Set The Fire To The Third Bar
7. Muse - Knights Of Cydonia
8. Muse - Starlight
9. Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
10. The Killers - When You Were Young

Snow Patrol's duet with Martha Wainwright on 'Set the Fire to the Third Bar' is a nice curiosity.

I don't like Snow Patrol but this is a fine track.

Too bad How It Ends was released last year. Otherwise, I would be all up ons.

Little Miss Awesome version, 2006!

Boooosh!

I think it's the same version, so technically, you're right. I also love the intro to the soundtrack, which seems to have elements of that song.

Somehow, I think Gone will be relevant for a while yet.

I would like to know too....odd topic for a band from Portland.

obviously the term decembrists couldn't date back to 19th century russia or anything.

I also gotta give kudos to:

2. "Storm in a Teacup" (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
3. "Atoms for Peace" (Thom Yorke)
4. "Typical" (Mute Math)
5. "Steady, As She Goes" (The Raconteurs)
6. "Juicebox" (The Strokes)
7. "Inside Job" (Pearl Jam)
8. "The Adventure" (Angels & Airwaves)
9. "Province (ft. David Bowie)" (TV on the Radio)
10. "Conventional Wisdom" (Built to Spill)

Best album: "Black Holes and Revelations" (Muse)

Most disappointing album: "Under the Iron Sea" (Keane)

opps. my bad.

well, that would make sense. and i think that's what i thought you were talking about the first time i saw your post, which makes sense as to why i didn't say anything before LJT posted, but makes no sense as to why i thought you meant the band now. good thing i didn't say, "what, you indie fucks never heard of the decembrists? and you call yourselves cutting edge." that would have been embarrasing!

no problem.

life got alot easier when i found that out.

"ftw" could quite possibly be the holy grail.

off topic (or rather, back on topic): green day - castaway is a great track that has inexplicably lodged itself on a never-ending loop in my brain. only thing is, i think it came out in 2000. maybe one of you radiohead nerds can remind me (no google, i'll be able to tell!) when kid a came out. same day as green day put out the warning album.

Speaking of Liars, "The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack" is a great song from earlier this year which, somehow, nobody has mentioned.

of course! "Drum's Not Dead" is an awesome album

Tres embarrassing:wink:

I guess it has to be about the Shankill Butchers from here Lara.....hmm anyone know of the band giving a rundown of what the songs are about, I would just like to hear why they picked up on the story.

here to save the day, the ever resourceful VG

The Shankill butchers ride tonight
You better shut your windows tight
Theyre sharpening their cleavers and their knives
And taking all their whisky by the pint
Cuz everybody knows
If you dont mind your mother's words
A wicked wind will blow
Your ribbons from your curls
Everybody moan everybody shake
The shankill butchers wanna catch you
Awake

They used to be just like me and you
They used to be sweet little boys
But something went horribly askew
Now killing is their only source of joy
Cuz everybodys knows...

[repeat]

The shankill butchers on the rise
Theyre waiting till the dead of night
Theyre picking at their fingers with their knives
And wiping off their cleavers on their thighs
Cuz everybod knows...

[repeat]

The shankill butchers wanna kill you
The shankill butchers wanna cut you
The shankill butchers wanna catch you
Awake
Awake
Awake
Awake

not exactly cryptic.
very weird though

I don't even have the album I'm still working on acquiring all of picaresque...:shifty:

I've never heard a person outside of Belfawst / Norn Iron talking about it liek. Just struck me as an odd song title.

And I don't think much of those song lyrics :slant:

Duke Special- Last Night I Nearly Died:drool:

Gorgeous video too.

If you don't know Duke Special check him out now!

Best thing out of Belfast since Van Morrison.

Sunset Rubdown - "Shut Up I Am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings"
TV On the Radio - "Wolf Like Me"

:drool::drool:

And seconded for the Comets on Fire/Decemberist tracks.
