Thank you EP for compiling/tabulating!

Is it too late?

I have been avoiding this too long...but I think my contributions would have changed any of the final tabulations. Zwan may have been bumped for Grandaddy...but that's it.

I would have added Supergrasss - LOOP (I think that was 2003) to my list (Wasn't mentioned)

the new one by the Wrens is seeming like it might just be totally excellent, too. and some other releases that i've listened to a bit but not fully formed an opinion on. so i'm leaving this as my wildcard spot for now. suckers!

Well, The Notwist was actually released in 2002 so it's out.

1. The Wrens - Meadowlands
2. The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
3. The Decemberists - Her Majesty
4. Calexico - Feast of Wire
5. Ted Leo/Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
6. Menomena - I am the Fun Blame Monster
7. Lyrics Born - Later That Day
8. Twine - Twine
9. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
10. British Sea Power - The Decline of...

Hon Mentions:
Outkast - Speakerboxxx/Love Below
Four Tet - Rounds
Elbow - Cast of Thousands
Basement Jaxx - Kish Kash
Moloko - Statues

So, ummm... 3 of 10 stayed. Haha. Wow. and 5 of 15.

And the 10 amazing newcomers I didn't hear until 2004, so ... I'm looking forward to discovering some of 2004's great music in 2005! :)

haha. i always talk about music from years past and no one takes notice. it's not all about the present people! live in the past already!

i live in the past quite often. most of the albums i bought in 2004 (and this was possibly the case in 2003, but i can't remember back that far, haha) came out anywhere from 1-30 years earlier

shit, wasn't broken social scene released in 2003?? how were they not on there but the DARKNESS were?!

worst band ever.

2. The Wrens- Meadowlands
3. Radiohead- HTTT
4. Cat Power- You are free
5. My Morning Jacket- it still moves
6. The Black Keys- Thickfreakness

Broken Social Scene was originally released in 02 (in my country), though in the US in 03. I like to go by original release dates.. it just makes more sense.

then why was stars and sons only released as a single late in 03, with cause = time and almost crimes released in 04??

they didn't have any other singles from that album did they?

i don't know! you tell me.

But allmusic.com says Oct 15, 2002. it was probably on a tiny label at that point, though.

I too would push Meadowlands way up on the list.

I would actually have a considerably different list now. Oh well, times change.
