ok time for a stab at this. I just looked at the file I keep of all the shows I have gone to.

This is going to be tough.

1. Radiohead - 8/20/03 - Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia, MD
2. Idlewild - 5/21/03 - Mercury Lounge - NYC
3. Pearl Jam - 7/1/03 - Nissan Pavilion - Manassas, VA
4. Coldplay - 03/02/03 - A.J. Palumbo Theatre - Pittsburgh, PA
5. Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - 6/22/03 - Bull Run Park - Centerville, VA

I am not sure if this list is right or not. Here are some shows that I have no idea how they are not in my top 5 of the year. Each was amazing and on any given day could be in my top 5.

- Idlewild - 7/16/03 - The 9:30 Club - Washington, DC
- The Polyphonic Spree - 6/10/03 - 9:30 Club - Washington, DC
- The Delgados - 04/21/03 - The Black Cat - Washington, DC
- Jesse Malin - 05/8/03 - Iota Club & Cafe - Arlington, VA
- Pete Yorn and Grandaddy - 05/13/03 - The 9:30 Club - Washington, DC
- Gemma Hayes - 06/08/03 - Iota Club & Cafe Arlington, VA

This was hard to pick. Plus the few I have upcoming are going to be amazing.

* edit
how the hell is idlewild at the 9:30 club not #3. How could I think about leaving PJ out of the top 5?

i can only remember going to the warped tour, a scottish festival, and seeing gaelic storm in 2003...

i think it's safe to say that the best show i will have been to this year will be dropkick murphys--even though it doesn't actually happen for a couple more weeks.

best so far:
dkm, andrew wk, or rancid on warped.

it scares me that i'm planning on going to about twice as many shows as i've seen all year in the upcoming 3 or 4 weeks.

i'm missing the chili peppers RIGHT NOW. i'd assume they're taking the stage now, or just did not too long ago. and i'm missing andrew wk this friday (but i get to meet him, so i guess that's almost as cool)

Just the top 5? Argh.

1) Jeff Tweedy - 1/9/03 - The Vic - Chicago
2) Wilco - 6/19/03 - Tower City Ampitheater - Cleveland
3) Wilco- 7/3/03 - Summerfest
4) Red Hot Chili Peppers - 5/30/03 - Madison
5) Coldplay/The Music - 3/12/03 - The Rave - Milwaukee

Honorable Mentions:

-Neil Finn - 2/5/03 - The Vic
-Radiohead - 8/30/03 - Alpine Valley
-Jeff Tweedy - 5/16/03 - Martyr's - Chicago
-Anna Fermin - some Borders in Lincoln Park...seriously

This is list is going to be totally obliterated in the next two weeks with an REM/Wilco/Ed Harcourt show and Wilco's two-night stand in Chicago, but there you go.

Coldplay - V Festival
Coldplay - Earls Court, London
PJ Harvey - V Festival
Tom McRae - V Festival
Chili Peppers - V Festival

Havent been to many this yr

Yeah, but I'm not really willing to spend ?20 on train fare + the ticket price to see him. I thought he was good at T, but not good enough to spend that much money to see. :slant:

Oh boy. This'll be tough.

1: The Flaming Lips in Ohio, April 30th (I think?)
2: Beck, Chicago and Minneapolis, June 11th and 12th
3: Coldplay, Minneapolis, March 13th
4: Radiohead, Alpine Valley, August 23rd (? yes, I can't remember what day it was.. I'm pathetic)
5: White Stripes, Minneapolis (July I think)

Honorable mention: BB King, Des Moines, in May

Coming up: Wilco on the 17th :D

The best of 2003?

hmm, it would be about the same as Celia except Tom McRae as we both went to V Festival in Chelmsford (16-17th August) this year so my list would look this:

1. Chili Peppers - V Festival
2. Coldplay - V Festival
3. Foo Fighters - V Festival
4. P J Harvey - V Festival
5. The Hives - V Festival
6. Kings of Leon - Electric Ballroom, London July 10th 2003
7. The Datsuns - Shepherds Bush Empire, London July 1st 2003

To come:

Feeder - Wembley Arena 10th December

Possibles: Frank Black and The Catholics, Astoria next month

Pearl Jam's 3 night stand in Mansfield MA where they played pretty much their entire tour catalog over the 3 nights.(Also saw them in Albany on 4-29)

Springsteen at Fenway on 9-7.(also Gillette Stadium on 8/1, but Fenway show was one of his best ever)

Aerosmith/Kiss on 8/27 (Smith blew Kiss off the stage)

i know i'm missing one tonight

andrew wk.

be quiet! i know what you're going to say!

moloko, morcheeba, kosheen were great, all in one day, it was just awesome.... massive attack was great too, esp. for being backstage. i liked buena vista... the band just kicks ass. roy hargrove is very cool. still to come... santana was here a few days ago but i missed him, hope to see him next year...
thinking of going to david bowie, not sure yet. alternatively muse and moloko again.

THE TOASTERS.

holy fuckin shit. so, in case you've never heard of them, they're a ska band. do yourself a huge favor and go see them if they play a show near you.
