The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Baby One More Time-Britney Spears

HAHA.

Seriously, it would probably be Definitely Maybe by Oasis.

Apart from Elvis Costello, U2 and The Jimi Hendrix Experience (whose debut album was Are You Experienced and not something self-titled), I think these are amazing as well:

Spearhead - Home
Urban Dance Squad - Mental Floss For The Globe

Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Keane - Hopes and Fears
The Doors - the Doors
The Beatles - Please Please Me
Interpol - TOTBL
Oasis - Definilty Maybe
Pink Floyd - TPATGOD
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Coldplay - Parachutes
The Verve - The Verve EP
Weezer - Weezer

damn good music...!

Of course the answer if My Aim is True - Elvis Costello.

But a close close second is Murmur - R.E.M.

Bjork - Debut
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
Garbage - Garbage
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
Tricky - Maxinquaye
Jimi Hendrix (not quite a personal favorite, but you have to give credit)

I've already exceeded five, but as runners up:
Portishead - Dummy
Pearl Jam - Ten
The Doors - self titled
U2 - Boy
Elastica- self titled

Another!

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

Sigur Ros had a great U.S. debut (Ajetus Byrjun), but I guess they actually had another album first with limited release.

Too bad Radiohead started with Pablo Honey

What about The Arcade Fire's self-titled EP? Does that count as a debut? It has all original material, and is long enough in my opinion to count as a full length release.

hands down, no question about it, end of story, the best debut of all time has to be Definitely Maybe by Oasis

I don't think EPs count. REgardless of actual length, if it is considered an EP, then it is not a debut album, and was not intended as such. So Arcade Fire still gets credit for Funeral. I've heard the EP is a bit lackluster in comparison.

Certainly agree with

Oasis
Interpol
Bjork
Hendrix
Arcade Fire

Id also add

Grandaddy- Under the Western Freeway
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
The Strokes - Is This It?
Ryan Adams- Heartbreaker
Beck- Mellow Gold
Son Volt- trace

Ill think of more later.

U2 - Boy
Echo & The Bunnymen - Crocodiles
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
The Clash - The Clash (UK version and US version)

1. Pearl Jam - Ten
2. Arcade Fire - Funeral
3. Interpol - Turn Out The Bright Lights
4. U2 - Boy
5. Led Zepplin - Led Zepplin
at least today that's my top 5.
