Queen
The Smiths
Iron Maiden
Bruce Springsteen

this is a really good discussion.

let me guess.

the next five lists will also consist of bands that everyone's read in a thousand best-of lists, even though the posters probably don't really like any songs by them - that is if they've even HEARD of any of the material their listed bands have ever produced in the first place.

so in keeping with that in mind, i present my own list.

1. the beatles
2. queen
3. pink floyd
4. the rolling stones
5. u2
6. pantera
7. the who
8. led zeppelin
9. genesis
10. metallica

What in the heck! Could the reason some of the same bands are coming up over and over is b/c they are the greatest and people everywhere agree! You have these bands in your list too. who are you to say people are pretending to like them! Did I miss the memo that said you were the only true music fan?

(1) The Eagles
(2) Bon Jovi
(3) The Darkness
(4) Slipknot
(5) Huey Lewis and the News

Django Reinhardt and Stephen Grapelli
Son House
Woody Guthrie
Vivaldi
Bach
Robert Johnson (But he sold out)

They're not bands but all music after 1950 sucks.

Therefore I am the only true music fan here.

1. U2
2. The Beatles
3. The Who
4. The Rolling Stones

Those are the essentials to me. The ones that really changed the face of music and attained that certain unattainable level..

I find Pink Floyd to be utterly boring and lacking the spark that these other bands have. As for Led Zeppelin, well... I feel like they never broke out of their own mold...

these other four really experimented with their own sound, pushed the boundaries. Led Zeppelin just seemed to embrace what they were. Not that it is such a bad thing... just... their music doesn't span that epic scope to me...

just an opinion...

as far as other bands go, I think Radiohead could be on the list one day, they really have achieved a certain level and really experimented with their own sound, but who knows...

maybe Ashlee SImpson???

That's a fine list. It's easily the best list posted so far.

Bach

The Stones didn't push any boundaries. They just bought black music to a white audience.

And it shall remain the best list until some one posts who I believe to be a true connoisseur of fine music.
