Actually about 4 of the bands mentioned here Ive never even heard of. Brooklyn Star and Fruit? Hmmm.. Are u people sure they are Australian?

Crowded House are confused because Neil is a Kiwi and the other 2 (i think Paul is) are Aussies.
They get listed as both a NZ and Aussie band but I think they call themselves Australian. One of the reasons they split was because Neil wanted to go back to live in NZ.

my comment .. THE LIVING END!!!!!!
Best Aussie band!!!!

Neil Finn

Just picked up his cd "7 Worlds Collide" (Neil Finn & Friends) today.

I must admit, I've never heard of him, but the cd rocks!!!

And this is weird...the opening riff for the song "Down On The Corner" reminds me of one of the tracks in the Achtung Baby outtakes.

Better than Powderfinger and silverchair? hmmm...

I saw Living End perform Sunday Bloody Sunday a few years back which I have to say was rather cool.

silverchair have done more with their sound than the living end and powderfinger put together. i am not a big silverchair fan but they have really come on since their first album and dont seem frightened to push the boundaries.

I've got that second set of stamps! I don't collect them, but I got them last year when I was a madly obsessed Savage Garden fan. I think they're really pretty. How come we never get any cool stamps like that in the UK?

In addition to what you have already got, i would add:

The Waifs

Paul Kelly
Hunters & Collectors
Nick Seymour
Hoodoo Gurus
The Whitlams
Mick Thomas
WPA
My friend the chocolate cake
Rebekahs Empire

plus all the others

I heard your voice whispering...

Two words: Midnight Oil. I'm going to see them in May...very excited. Love their new album, Capricornia.

And Crowded House...Neil Finn is one of the greatest songwriters on the planet today. But I think of them as a NZ band.

John Butler Trio - from Perth. they absolutely go off, live. John Butler is an absolutely amazing guitarist.

see http://www.fruit.on.net
Heather Frahn is a soloist, also from Adelaide, she is fucking amazing and talented, see http://www.heatherfrahn.musicpage.com !!
and http://www.heatherfrahn.fan-page.com (fansite).
if you EVER hear of her playing, go and check her out, she is going to be huge one day! don't forget that U2 started by playing at the dandelion market....
apart from those 3, i also love Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe and Midnight Oil
smile.gif

Oh hell yeah, Fruit and Heather Frahn are the best!

I URGE you guys to check both of them out whenever you get the chance!

I am lucky in that they are both based in little old Adelaide, so i get to see them play lots

silverchair's new album "Diorama" is the best album I've heard since "What's the Story Morning Glory", maybe since Achtung Baby. Seriously, even if you hated silverchair's older music, the newer stuff is so beautiful you may love it yet. The old guitar-based stuff isn't gone, though, just subdued.

I recommend:
Across the Night
Greatest View
Without You
World Upon Your Shoulders
Tuna in the Brine

and for the harder rockers, One Way Mule

And you brighten my life like a polystyrene hat
But it melts in the sun like a life without love
And I've waited for you so i'll keep holding onWithout you

I had plans for a birthday bash this Friday, but my friend died yesterday,so we have cancelled the get together. A funeral instead as it turns out.
But I heard on the radio this morning Slava Grigoryan is playing with his brother and the Australian Youth Symphony at a nice venue near here next weekend. So I'm taking my guitar playing son. I think it will be a great inspiration to him. I am so looking forward to it, a belated treat.
He IS Australian btw, so young , so talented
smile.gif
I think it will be extra nice to hear the brothers play together. One of the pieces Slava will play is called Symphony Fantastique...sounds promising. ahhh music, we're so lucky.

Grigoryan grigoryan grigoryan
Slava Grigoryan.........got it
