It's happening. 3 day passes went on sale yesterday, and I snapped up two of them today for a cool 240 bucks.

The actual lineup isn't announced until May, but some names (Son Volt, Kasey Chambers, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, The Subdudes and Buckwheat Zydeco) are all but sealed in, according to some sources.

Two other artists are also presumably confirmed, and these are the two I'm excited about:

You heard it here first. Iron & Wine and The Flaming Lips at your 2006 ACL Festival.

September 15-17 :hyper:

Moreover, here are some interesting bits from Wikipedia:

Rumored acts are: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Fiona Apple, Calexico, Wilco, Bob Dylan, and Beck.

The Flaming Lips, Iron & Wine and The New Pornographers have confirmed on their websites that they are playing this year's festival. Pollstar.com lists Son Volt, Asleep at the Wheel, The Greencards and The Subdudes as performers for this year's festival. The official website has a scavenger hunt which allows people to search for the ACL Grackle on different artists websites with the help from a clue.

Full lineup is released May 11, but a handful of acts are trickling in via news from their own websites or elsewhere. Here's a list of the acts that are confirmed:

  • The Flaming Lips
    Los Lonely Boys
    Iron and Wine
    The New Pornographers
    Son Volt
    Asleep at the Wheel
    Jimmy Dale Gilmore
    The Subdudes
    The Greencards
    Kasey Chambers
    Buckwheat Zydeco
    Melissa Reaves
    Eli Young Band
    Elvis Perkins

Just wait, LMP. It's going to get better than this.

I'll have a new confirmed act tomorrow morning and every morning for the next four days.

The Lips have seriously made the weekend for me already. It's not going to take a whole lot more for me to feel like the 120 was well spent, but Iron & Wine certainly doesn't hurt, and I'm also pretty sure Wilco will turn up, since they've been there every year since the festival began. Those three are enough for me, but I'm sure there's going to be a monster (coughRadioheadcough) that gets announced on May 11. Something amazing is going to happen, this festival doesn't disappoint.

Oooh, I watched Arcade Fire on the webcast last year

It was, along with Wilco, the performance of the festival. I feel really lucky that I got to see them.

As promised, another band is confirmed this morning, and it's a damn good one.

The Shins!

Some more confirmations for anyone who cares:

KT Tunstall
Matisyahu
John Mayer
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

The lineup comes out Thursday, but according to Austinist and the Dallas Observer, a lot of it has leaked already.

Some notables:

Van Morrison
Willie Nelson
The Raconteurs
Gnarls Barkley
Damien Rice
FEIST
STARS
Secret Machines
Aimee Mann
Explosions in the Sky
Wolf Parade

Full lineup out Thursday. Stay tuned (if you care).

I really love Iron & Wine, but has anyone seen them live? I really have a hard time believing they can pull off the festival crowd. Their music is so quiet and soft, I just have a hard time picturing them at these festivals.

I'll add a  to that... I would love to see these guys live!

I just saw them last weekend. I was really impressed with every musician in the band (3). The drummer is a machine! Not the band you go to see if you want crowd-to-band banter. The Secret Machines show is very much all about the show and performance of the music speaks for itself. That's cool for me, and I can seperate that from say a band that plays and seems very aloof for an hour :)whistle: CYHSY).

Full lineup is out and can be found here: http://aclfest.com/lineup.aspx

I've got to say, the lineup isn't as good as last year. It also pales when you compare it to, say, Bonnaroo or Lolla. There are still plenty of artists I'm excited to see, but I feel like ACL took a step backwards this year after winning Festival Of The Year last year.

Still gonna be a good time though. Anyone else going?

Add Ted Leo and the Pharmacists to this list!

I am in L.A. this weekend....otherwise I would be in Austin! Have fun IMP13!!!

Zoney, you were talking about going last year too and it never happened.

Get your ass down here in 07

I'm really excited though. First big band for me is Stars at 3:30 tomorrow, which I've been looking forward to for quite some time. I'll take plenty of photos throughout the weekend and I'll be sure to put em up here.

Sort of off topic but sort of relevant, I just got a ticket for Broken Social Scene at Stubb's in late October and Wilco in San Antonio in mid October. My first BSS experience, my second Wilco.

YES! I really really really need to get to this one. What was my pathetic excuse last year? I think I saw U2 around this time.

I got a ticket for BSS about three weeks ago. You will really enjoy their show!

I have Sufjan Stevens next weekend, BSS and Tapes n' Tapes in a matter of days, and U2 in December!

Suf is here both tomorrow and Saturday nights, unfortunately I'll be at the festival and will miss him this time around.

Tapes N Tapes  be sure to tell me how that is. I love The Loon.

It's been amazing so far, and I'm about to head out to Zilker for the last day (KT Tunstall, Tom Petty, and the freaking LIPS!)

Interesting news though... it's completely pouring down rain in ATX right now.

Glastonbury all over again?

I did, but only for a short while and only from a very far distance. I had a pretty good spot for The Flaming Lips, who had the performance of the festival for me, along with Secret Machines, Iron & Wine, and The Raconteurs. What I saw of Muse was great, but then again they never disappoint.

What a weekend. I had an amazing time, got to hang out with some good friends, hear some good music, and eat some good food. As long as I live in Texas, much less Austin, I don't want to ever miss one of these. It was a lot less hot than last year, so the experience was that much better. I'm just sad it's over so soon, it seems to go by so quick.

Acts I saw this weekend:

Stars
Gnarls Barkley
Ray LaMontagne
John Mayer
Van Morrison
Eli Young Band (Texas Country band, my friend likes them a lot, so I watched them just to kill time even though it's not music I'm into)
Secret Machines
The Shins
Aimee Mann
The Raconteurs
Iron & Wine
KT Tunstall (who was fantastic)
The Flaming Lips
G. Love & Special Sauce
Muse
Tom Petty

Combine that with several bratwursts, and I'd say it was a damn good weekend.
