the first song they played was great

I saw that near the end of the song one of Win's guitar strings broke and then he smashed his guitar to bits afterwards. I couldn't tell if it was planned or not

I also got tickets for the friday chicago show, they're like 30th row, but I'm on the main floor so I'm happy

It was planned. He did the same thing at the Montreal show 2 weeks ago. Smashing the guitar to bits, however, is a different story. Dunno where that came from.

it looked plan...he broke the strings and the smashed his guitar :drool: :drool:

What was the significance of "Sak Vide Pa Kanpe" on Win's guitar? I found a Haitian Creole translation for "Sak Vid Pa Kanpe" meaning "An empty bag can't stand on it's own". Apparently, a proverb -- said mostly to people so they can take good care of themselves, eat well in order to survive physically. In other words, they can't be healthy with an empty stomach. What is Win referring to, anything in particular or just our good health?
 
I taped SNL last night and watching it now. What was the name of the first song they played? I'm completely in love with it and must know the title RIGHT NOW. :drool:

(Yes, I have downloaded Neon Bible, but have so far successfully avoided listening to it, prefering to wait to blast the actual CD.)

Just watched both songs on youtube. Really awesome. Wish they were coming near me.
 
DAMN. I just found out they're going to be in Portland, but I get "no tickets available" on Ticketbastard. If only I'd known about it sooner! :(

Oh well. I'll keep checking; maybe tickets will pop up in the future.

They're playing the Gorge (over the mountains from Seattle) at Sasquatch, but no thanks. Festivals, camping ... shudder.
 
Hope people won't over-react to this, but there's a bunch of buzz over at Us Kids Know about this comment in NME.

Allegedly, though, Win feels he was quoted out of context, for what it's worth.

And, he has a point, of course.

Win Butler talks exclusively to NME

Arcade Fire have criticised the marketing strategies of band’s like U2, Oasis and The Rolling Stones.

Speaking in the new issue of NME, frontman Win Butler had a go at bands who aggressively force feed their music to fans.

Butler said: "It’s not like we shun success, but at the same time we don’t’ want to shove it down people’s throats. In the UK there’s this kind of rock star competition.

"I don’t know if U2 started it, or The Stones or Oasis but a lot of bands think in terms of: ’I’m going to be the biggest band in the world. Fuck all those bands who’ve got no ambition’. I think that’s a total crock of shit.

"There’s nothing less interesting to me than the idea of marketing the fuck out of something so people are forced to like it. Some bands are just manipulating people to buy music. That’s how 90 per cent of the record industry works! It’s basically the same as selling a fucking toaster or a cruise package."

You are so lucky. I had the horrible luck that my internet connection went down right at the onsale time, so I could not get onto ticketmaster. It started working 15 minutes later, at which point they were all sold out. 3rd and 4th row will be amazing.

In regards to the NME article, you've seen the thread on that in EYKIW, right?

If not, please do go over there for an a) amusing; b) horrifying; c) bizarre; d) all of the above thread.
 
I wish people in the EYKIW thread maybe read what he actually said? Typical immature and off base reaction in there. There is nothing hypocritical in what he says, and what he does (ie going on SNL a few days later). Nothing at all.

Anyway, if he's not comfortable with bands deciding that hype and size are their only marker of success, and the arrogance of their self fulfilling declarations along the way, then I hope he's comfortable with it when that hype and those declarations are coming naturally from elsewhere, because his band, I suspect, are about to be adorned with all sorts of crowns.

Neon Bible really is something special. I'd read all the hype, particularly in here, so was pretty sceptical, even though Funeral is amazing and one of my favourites of the last few years. I only heard Neon Bible all the way through for the first time yesterday. Was driving to a friends place while it was being played in full on the radio. Pulled up and just sat in the car for 20 minutes outside in the rain listening to the last few tracks. I haven't been looking forward to getting my hands on an album this much in a long, long, long time.
