I sure am. The amount of Indie bands I like is rediculous, so I'm sure I'll miss some but here are some of the major players I like:

Pavement
Grandaddy
New Pornographers
Belle and Sebastian
The Start
The Shins
Modest Mouse
Beta Band
The Dismemberment Plan (they just broke up)
Inerpol
The Avalanches

Lots others

Yeah, like a week or so ago. Cant remember where I read that.

Quasi
Elliott Smith
Yo La Tengo
Low
etc...

-yo la tengo have a new CD coming out in april
-New Pornographers have a new cd in may....their new song is online at matadors website. It's pretty much the same as the mass romantic stuff but very good.
-elliott Smith has a new cd coming soon!

*overload*

Usually when I think indie I think the indie rock bands like Thrush Hermit and Dandy Warhols whom I do not really like so much. Seems like if you label yourself indie it doesn't matter how off key you sing

They definately count.

I'm going to go check out that new New Pornographers song.

PS-Basstrap, Low rules.

Downloaded the New Pornographers' song. You're right, now much different than the last album. Still though, considering the last album was fantastic, that's not neccessarily a bad thing.

I'm adding a new indie band I'm interested in : Catpower.
I really like what I've heard so far, their new album is on MTV.com's first listen thing now. Check it out.

Dismemberment Plan haven't broken up yet. They are finishing their tour and then calling it quits. It was a preemptive terminination of the group. I don't think they'll be gone for long, though. Great band. As is Stereolab. What they decide to do after a death in the group is anybody's guess.

"s.t.r.e.e.t d.a.d," by out hud, "counter culture 2002," a compilation by rough trade shops, and "televise," by calla are three good independent albums I've been listening to of late. check them out.

Great, support your local indie. Some of them need places to stay while they're on tour... My friend saw this thread and thought you were talking about music from India... she obviously is not into the independent scene.

Like you have friends.

Like you talk to girls.

 to Cujo's lies

pavement
elliot smith:up:

indies is where it's at

today?s indies can turn into tomorrows buzz plays and have the originality choked out of them

cornershop- Indian indie

by the way, I really don't like the term "indie"

it is such an un-indie thing to say

:sexywink:

Arab Strap
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Boom Bip
Pedro the Lion
The Shins
The Postal Service
i think these fall under the indie heading.......

Is Indie in reference to the size of the record label? If so, what is the allowabe revenue/assets that define an independent record label? If you go $1 over the threshold, are you no longer indie?
