This is the best thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

Melbourne manages to have an Estonian House AND a Lithuanian House, one of which is not far from me and has seen better days. I haven't yet stumbled upon a Latvian House though. No Baltic trifecta for Melbourne.

Challenge accepted!

Behold: Daugavas Vanagi - Melbourne - Home

Oh, I completely agree. It's a stupid idea. Obviously I don't have a problem with "The Place to Be", arrogant though it is

I'm glad my number plate is a "Place To Be" one, if only because it's not "On The Move". The old "Garden State" ones were much preferable.

But they look so cool in the uncool way! It's like Bono on wheels!

:lmao:

And :lmao: again!

I fucking HATE how dentistry is not part of Medicare.

Apparently in the nineties there was a move to set up a "Dentacare" but it never quite got through all the bureaucratic red tape and was put aside. Ugh. And they wonder why so many students and other low income people never go to the dentist and have poor teeth? Because even a basic filling costs fucking heaps.

Hardly any point getting private health insurance either - I did the sums, and my average dental costs per year work out MARKEDLY cheaper than getting private cover.

Braces cost something like $6000, thankfully I don't need them. :crack:

Now that's one thing that would place a dent in your bank account.

SO glad I didn't need braces either.

But now I do need a fucking root canal. :sigh:

Oh noez teh SOCIALISM helping people through tough times!!!11!!11!1

Just for the record:

This is NOT a bloody carbon tax | Article | The Punch

It is not a tax on carbon, just as a speeding fine is not a tax on cars.

You wouldn’t know it from what the Opposition has been saying for the past 12 months, and even the Government has surrendered to the word “tax” to describe its carbon pollution pricing scheme.

But that doesn’t make it correct, and it doesn’t mean voters are being appropriately informed about what Opposition Leader Tony Abbott calls the “toxic tax”.

...

Yesterday I was asked by an articulate and aware young person whether the carbon tax would be itemised on receipts in the same way as the GST? She quite clearly believed it was a fixed levy on goods and services paid at point of sale.

And there are anecdotal reports of people expecting that from July 1 next year the carbon tax will be deducted from their wages every payday.

Jesus bloody christ, people. Learn what something is before you fucking get all up in arms about how terrible it is.

I love that FYM thread about how you would tweak your country's government - with one strand of the conversation being a calm and interesting discussion of Australia/New Zealand and the other being some batshit emotionally charged discussion about the US.

You have got to be fucking kidding. If anybody even THINKS there is anything racist about "Spicks and Specks", they need a lobotomy.

Haha, well, you must surely understand that the latter is vital in every FYM thread. To be honest, those sorts of discussions wouldn't be half as mad if it weren't for that Indy guy. Funnily enough, I used to think he actually was a sarcastic poster assuming the alter-ego of a right-wing loony.

I was going to post something about how I would change Australia or whatever but now the urge to do it has waned considerably.

I was gonna make a thread in FYM but I can't even bring myself to do it.

Still dooooo eeeettt.

I'm kind of with Vlad in that you should still do it, just because I'm morbidly curious how terrible it will become.

The place was indeed a bit quieter when he wasn't around. Seriously, I sometimes wonder about him, if he isn't intentionally distorting what other people say. I stay out of his way just for the sake of my blood pressure.

And I think it'd be cool if you still did it. I was hoping there would be some more Aussie/Kiwi discussion and ideas in there.

Well, for one, it certainly wouldn't be as detailed as what you and a few others are discussing. I may still, but I'm not particularly as well-versed in Australian political history as I think I should be.

And of course, it would start with a "but we gotta start a revolution first!11!!!" which would unsurprisingly annoy a few, but I think that's a good thing.

I'm kind of tempted to make increasingly overtly socialistic comments about Australia/New Zealand to see if Indy actually replies, or if he really is incapable of envisaging a world outside the US.

Thumbs up to nick Xenophon for naming the pedo priest in parliament. The only decent thing a polli has done lately.

carbon tax...... Instead of taxing my arse how about making it simple to get our solar panels installed and hooked up?????

I would recommend you do that.

If I were more of a troll, I'd just go completely into the deep end and start advocating Sharia Law.

Fine I did it. But you have to come and back me up.

Done!

Yeah, while I can understand some of the qualms people have with Xenophon naming somebody who is yet to face trial and has been convicted of nothing, the Catholic Church has been disgracefully dragging its feet for so long that something radical like this needed to be done. A swift kick up their backsides may just spur them into some bloody long overdue action.

And nothing is taxing your arse re: carbon. Unless I am grossly mistaken and you are living a double life as a director of BHP, anyway!
