1) If we get Abbott as PM, that'll be one more big incentive to get my British passport and start looking at working in the EU. Sure, the economy sucks, but PM Abbott will suck more.

2) I overheard some Americans talking about the language thing while I was on a plane last week, they were going on about how Estonian shouldn't be a language option when you go for your driver's licence and if you come here (to the USA) you should speak English, etc etc. At least it's not just us...

I don't even want to comment on the rest of it, you folks have pretty much said it all anyway.

That Julia Gillard sitcom on the ABC last night was legendary! Mathieson getting bagged out the whole episode was hilarious!

I was out, but I wasn't going to watch it anyway because the ads honestly didn't make it look very good. "Julia" doesn't even look like Julia. The voice is sort of there, at least ...

Is it better than the ads imply?

I enjoyed the bashing of Tim more. It'll probably get old fast, but It was alright.

I found it made me giggle in a juvenile way, but I have no love for jooolia so anything taking the piss out of her works for me. The bob katter and other independents over for dinner skit was well worth it.

Oh my god, can we have a show lampooning Bob Katter? It'd be so cheap to make - you'd just need to mash together actual clips of him speaking!

Myf Warhurst's got a post-Spicks & Specks show on the ABC next year: Announcement: Myf Warhurst's Nice - ABC TV Blog

Could be OK, could not be. I'll give it a go, but it's the kind of thing I imagine would be much better hosted by James May.

Katter show would indeed be a reality show. He's an appalling individual.

Myf needs to get naked before she gets too old. Hope her new show doesn't go the same way as her radio show with Strauchanie.

James May could host Antiques Roadshow and even then he'd make it watchable.

Now Strauchanie, there's a joke that's worn out its welcome.

And James May can't quite save everything, Vlad. Not even he could make A Current Affair watchable.

Ugh, Strauchanie. I was shocked that the "joke" had the resonance that it had. It was such a basic character, lacked any depth or critique. It just mimicked a stereotype that we all already knew and it wasn't even funny. It wore out it's welcome before it was even welcome. It was cringeworthy.

His "interview" with Barry Hall that I endured during half-time in the Bulldogs' last game was one of the most cringeworthy things I've ever seen on telly. Felt like it went for half a week.

Barry Hall deserved better than that.

Agree about Katter

I hope to god Myf never gets naked. It's one of the reasons I like her so much, she hasn't sold out like so many other celebs have.

oh yeah, there's a lot of that "THIS IS AMURRIKA SON AND YOU BEST BE SPEAKIN' ENGLISH HERE" shit. never mind america doesn't even have an official language (though confusingly many states do have official language/languages on the books). i didn't realise there were enough estonians in one state to make the state justify printing the licence stuff in estonian. and if they were just saying, what a relatively obscure language to pick!

(though in regards to that i think driver's licences should only be printed in english, if only because all road signs are in english. if you can't understand simple words like name, birthdate, and address, how are you going to understand a roadworks sign stating the road's closed up ahead or there's a dui checkpoint?)

Considering there are barely a million Estonians in Estonia I'm not surprised ...

Melbourne manages to have an Estonian House AND a Lithuanian House, one of which is not far from me and has seen better days. I haven't yet stumbled upon a Latvian House though. No Baltic trifecta for Melbourne.
