Bono Answers AIDS S.O.S.
Macy Gray, Shaggy also on board for Mandela-led initiative

Bono, Macy Gray and Shaggy will perform at South African president Nelson Mandela's February 2nd concert to raise awareness and money for the victims of AIDS in Africa. Michael Jackson, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Elton John have also been approached to perform.

Co-sponsors Oprah Winfrey, Virgin Group head Richard Branson and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who attended Friday's concert launch, will lend support for the event.

"Twenty years after Mr. Mandela was transferred off Robben Island in chains -- we must all return with him, if not in person then as one global spirit," Branson said. "A spirit that together has the ability to break the chains of human suffering and loss that is HIV/AIDS."

Tickets for the free concert -- to be held on Robben Island, the site of Mandela's eighteen-year imprisonment -- will be distributed through either lottery or competition. Concert sponsor MSN will offer live on-line coverage of the event.
