The Bono beat . . .
December 5, 2002
BY MICHAEL SNEED SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST
It was standing room only when rocker Bono hit the Sun-Times editorial board meeting Wednesday to pitch his fight to combat AIDS in Africa.
*The surprise: His absolute sincerity. (He did not want to talk about his career with U2.)
*The stunner: His love of America. (He stated his Irish father loved America so much for freeing Europe from tyranny during World War II, he "thought himself an American.")
*The reel stunner: Actress Ashley Judd, who is touring with Bono, wore a floppy pulled-down hat because she was having a bad hair day. "I'm sorry. I slept on my hair for the past eight hours," she said.
Doesn't everybody?
*The reel surprise: And for once in his life, comedian Chris Tucker--who talks in whipsaw fashion--went almost unnoticed. (Tucker also accompanied Bono.)
