Bono was in New York, Monday, to receive the Humanitarian Laureate Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Centre.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center, an international human rights organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust, honored Bono at its annual dinner for his long-running campaigning work to cancel the unpayable debts of the world?s poorest countries.
Rabbi Marvin Hier, Dean and Founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center said, ?Bono is to be congratulated for his tireless work on behalf of many humanitarian causes, from fighting to alleviate famine and poverty, the scourge of AIDS in Africa, and for using his talent and influence to fulfill the prophetic vision of Tikkun Olam, of helping to mend and repair the world.?
The Simon Wiesenthal Center fosters tolerance and understanding through community involvement, educational outreach and social action.
